Dragon Age: Origins (Mac) review

OS X port of the game is NEXT to flawless, though there may be problems with installing DLC and player mods. The game itself is great, very deep story and breathtaking epic atmosphere, very interesting classes and abilities, lots of equipment and possibilities for altering default class roles. Spells offer great tactical flexibility. Dialogs are very much alive, one fells like living through the entire game!

I am so happy that the Mac is getting so many great games these days. Many of them are emulation based through Transgaming's tech, like this one. I say that if it is fast and works, that is totally fine by me. This is a stellar RPG on almost all levels. The dialog is great. the story is fantastic and the action is fun. I played this on the Xbox 360 and was frustrated by the realtime controls and felt it lacked strategy and control. That is completely different here. Really nice. Love it.

Great Game, but Unfortunately...

The OS X port of Dragon Age: Origins is actually quite good. If you are dual-booting, the performance loss means you should prefer the Windows version, and if you aren't, you might want to look into getting a Windows license.

Unfortunately, the OS X version of Dragon Age is unsupported abandonware. No patches, no DLC support, no release (or planned release) of the well-received Awakenings expansion. As truly excellent as Dragon Age: Origins is, this version is a disappointment. Shame on Bioware for allowing an unsupported product like this to market.

Good world, slightly repetative story

As any RPG title should, this game begins with a very deep, well developed world. The world is fairly immersive, and you have a lot of opportunities to interact with it. However, the graphics have some very noticeable glitches for it's generation. Also, this game plays a lot like similar bioware titles, so that it feels a bit repetitive.

a very pretty and deep game, it is essentially identical to the PC version of Dragon Age.

strengths: immersive story, with very good modeling and voice acting. Deep combat system with lots of options, vis a vie weapon type, magic, armour etc. a micro managers dream, competent AI, keeps you on your toes.

weakness: the game definitely has a been there done that feel to it. There does not seam to be anything unique about this title, It feels like Bioware has made this game before. Combat, while complex is never very interesting.

Conclusion, its a great addition to any fantasy role playing fan, easily the best RPG to date for MAC OS. Its beautiful, but does not feel wholly original. Combat is a let down. Its a very polished game, but overall I feel a little disappointed.

7.5 on 10

This game is awesome, nothing short of it. The replay value is diminished because you have full control of every character in your group, BUT that is also a positive when you recognize the fact that there are MANY hours of game time to get through it and a very rich story line. If you loved Balder's Gate and games like that, you will fall in love with this game. It's a blast. Also, the expansion is worth your money. (it's big)

I just purchased Dragon Age: Origins Mac after waiting for the price drop right after Christmas. I have played WOW for three years and quit last year hoping another game would come out that was similar to WOW but could be paused during game play. I would say this game is awesome to play for many hours and to pause to change the kids' diapers. The content and story line is very well designed and the visual graphics are really enjoyable. I also had some reservations about downloading a game from Gamersgate but it took a few hours to get the game, some patch updates and i was off playing. I live in Southern Arizona and can say I am very satisfied with this site and the game.

If you want to play a game that's highly addictive, has great graphics, and a deep story with creative and unique characters? Then this is your game. Dragon Age brings a whole new experience to the PC and MAC universe for experienced gamers. The game's beginning is what pretty much decides your future. I've played this game twice; once with a male and once with a female, and I have to say that other than the characters played out totally differently. My only complaint is that the fights can get dole and they lack excitingness other than the bloody finishes that you may take upon your enemy (such as beheading people). But the story is the thing that will really draw you into this immersive game. After the beginning the story is pretty much the same and you are part of a group named the "Gray Warden's" and help them to kill the archdemon, which is a dragon, and the blight. All in all Dragon Age: Origins is an immersive game that is totally worth your money, with almost no flaws, and a great story and I can't wait for Dragon Age II.

DEFINETLY 5/5!

I was really hesitant to buy DA:O for mac because its a cider port and my machine is on the low end of the range (mid '07 iMac - 2.4 GHz, ATI HD2600). Eventually I caved, and I wish I hadn't waited so long. The game runs just fine - 15 hours in with no crashes. There's tons of reviews on game content out there, just adding my 2 cents on performance on an older mac.

Gorgeous game! Bioware has again shown it's mastery of the RPG genre. I was initially hesitant because of the basis in a unique fantasy world, as the games I had played previously by the company took place in the pre-established Forgotten Realms and Star Wars universes. However, they have done a fantastic job creating an immersive and intricate world. While there are only three races and three classes to choose from, each is richly detailed. You don't end up feeling like you are a "generic hero", as people react differently based on your race, and also your previous actions. While I end up wishing often that it had multiplayer, I still absolutely love this game.

Magnificent! Follows up past bioware RPG's with style, and manages to surpass many of them by created a wonderfully balanced game. While it is not overly innovative, it is a near perfect blend of the conventions that make an rpg great. And for mac users it is a much needed and rare rpg to be ported to their computers. It contains a very detailed and lively world that holds a great amount of replay value as well.
