GAME SUMMARY

Comix Zone

Rating: 3.9 (78 votes cast)

With his blond ponytail and tiny shades, comic book artist Sketch Turner is as hip as they come. But all the hipness in the world will not help him when his own creations turn against him. Mortus, the main villain in his comic book comes to life after a bizarre thunderstorm. Unable to harm Sketch in the real world, Mortus blasts the artist into his own comic book, where he must fight off an army of mutant warriors. When he lands in his post-apocalyptic comic world, Sketch befriends Alissa Cyan, who leads a resistance against the mutants and gives Sketch mission briefings as he fights. Since the action takes place in a comic book, the banter appears in word bubbles, and Sketch hops across comic panels to enter the next area.

Comix Zone review

I always wanted to play this game when it came out, but didn't know anyone with a SEGA. So I was thrilled when I saw it on here. It's just as unique as I thought it would be. An interesting take on a sidescroller, where your character goes from panel to panel. The gameplay is fairly basic now, but it's still pretty fun. I even enjoy how difficult the game is.

This is one of the best sort'of side scrolling (the action happens inside a comic book) beat'em up game. I think there was a version right when Windows 95 came out for directX 3. I recommend it to every one, not only classic game lovers, it's really a great game.

Comic Book Twist!

Comix Zone brings video games and comic books together in a side-scrolling fighting game. It is a brilliant idea to see your hero go from one drawing into another fighting with the enemies. Yet it is a very difficult game and you need to get used to its controls. I didn't play it much, but I am eager to see all the game till its last drawing. Recommended.

A great game taken from the classics. Comix Zone brings an interesting approach to using comics on videogames, a thing that was never used outside of it (I sincerely don't know why). The controls, however, could be more precise, but I think that's a characteristic of many games of that time.

A brilliant mix of comic books and video games! You take the role of a comic artist trapped inside his own book, travelling from panel to panel to defeat the villain he has drawn himself.

The game really uses the comic-book concept well: each level takes the form of one page, you jump across (or are thrown through) panel boundaries, enemies don't spawn, but are drawn in front of you... The game also features a three-item inventory and an interesting break-it-with-your-bare-hands-but-you'll-hurt-yourself system when destroying some objects.

Also, save & load at any time, which really brings this closer to the casual gamer.

One of the best classic Sega Genesis/MegaDrive games out there that was, unfortunately, quite overlooked at its original release. The graphics (considering the system it came out on originally) are quite colourful and nice, and the sprites are very well animated. The game plays out as a fun side-scrolling beat-em-up with various moves at your disposal. Probably the main problem I have with the game is that it's both short and hard. Really hard. Expect to die. A lot.

If you're up for the challenge, though, and happened to miss this gem on its original release, I'd say nab it.

This is one of my favorite old Genesis games. You play as the author of a comic book who gets stuck in his own comic and needs to find his way out by battling with the creatures he invented. The artistic thing about this game is that there are certain places and abilities you can get that literally tear the fabric of the game world (it's made out of paper, after all) to destroy your enemies, skip through panels, or find hidden items.

It's definitely a tough game and I've never beaten it, but you'll get hours of enjoyment out of it.

A sidescrolling game that takes place in a comic book!, anyways the game is pretty straight foward, you go around killing pretty much everything you see, with a good variety of "use once" items such as dynamite and a fist item that turns you into a superhero that kills almost everything on screen.

Maybe a downside it's that I found it to be too hard at times, breaking stuff like doors and the like reduces your hp, which makes you think of different ways to open/break them.
