Combat Wings review

This game is a decent try at flight simulation. Getting the joystick to respond the way I want takes a lot of tweaking and is like homework. Many kudos lost for that. The voice narrative of the missions is unnecessary and doesn't help the game because a lot of stuff in the voice narrative just doesn't need to be said. The old DOS game of Aces of the Pacific is much better and the joystick worked on that one. In that old DOS game I could actually concentrate on the game instead of fighting with this game to play it. For under $5 though it is not bad. Remember you get what you pay for.

This game is not great - the flying is clunky, and joysticks don't seem to be very well supported. The physics are aweful - no realism at all, and the number of planes that you can fly is also very limited.

There is a campaign mode and a free fly mode. The free fly mode just lets you fly around - no enemies or anything. The campaign mode is a little more interesting, but suffers from repetative missions and clunky combat.

one star.
