Children of the Nile Alexandria review

This is an incredible city building game. It goes beyond other city building games in that you are managing your city building to get approval from your people. If you fail, people leave and your city takes hits to economy and staffing. The Alexandria expansion is a wonderful addition to this game offering new building options as well as a completely new full campaign. I highly recommend this game!!!

This add on is very good. It gives more dimension and game play. I am enjoying the game more than with just the original.

Alexandria basically adds more of the same to the venerable CotN. This includes some useful infrastructure additions such as the brickyard, as well as a host of decorative and similar structures.

In addition, three new scenarios and a new three part campaign give you a reason to dust off that copy of CoTN, assuming you've actually stopped playing it.

All in all it's a worthwhile mini-expansion at a fair price, and is sure to entertain fans of the series.

Don't be put off by the download either - I have a retail copy of CotN, and this fitted in seamlessly. In fact, after installing Alexandria I no longer need to have the CotN disk in the drive to play

Children of the Nile was one of the first games I bought, once I had a machine with enough space to put games on to. I loved it from the start and still play it occasionally, so I was delighted to find that this Alexandria expansion had been produced. With a 3-part campaign plus 3 new scenarios, it's a welcome addition for us city building fans. I love the flexibility of being able to zoom in and follow characters as they go about their daily lives, then zooming out to see the whole picture. It's easy to learn the game with or without the tutorial, although why the strategy guide on the original game was ever done in Quicktime I don't know; I've never been able to view it on any of my PCs, so it seems a bit of a waste. I especially like being able to lay out the whole plan of the city without cost, unlike in the earlier city builders of Olympus and Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom, and it's not as fiddly to get buildings in the right position as Caesar IV.

If you like city building games, this has to be in your collection.
