Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor review

By damaomao007 posted 24th March

This is a new addition to the COH franchise, with some new elements - new story lines, new unit and new territory. And the dev team seemed to put a lot of time and energies into the multi-player modes. Several new modes were added or enhanced. But the single player mode was too short just on the storyline. But since it is part of the bundle purchase, I feel it still worth the money spent

This game is one of the best WW2 Real-time Strategies out there. It is in league with Men of War, and I personally enjoy both of the games to a same extent.

While Men of War focuses on micro-management on a massive scale, Company of Heroes leaves you in charge of a smaller number of units, but the catch is that each of the unit specifications is unique and can turn the tide of battle if used properly.

In Tales of Valor, you get access to additional game modes, multiplayer maps and units that you can 'unlock' in online mode.

All in all, this game deserves 5/5, and with the Tales of Valor expansion, it will surely remain one of the most played strategies related to WW2 for quite some time.

Company of Heroes: Going back to replay history

What a great game this is. I had this game for the mac, only missing the skirmish mode so badly that I also bought the game for windows. And it did not let me down.

The game is so realistic as well in his balance as in the historical facts. Every unit has is own speciality in i.e. shooting range, hit-points and speed. And every single part of the battlemap has his own specs. I.e. a wooden house gives less shelter then a stone house.

And now I even didn't talked about the graphics. When an explosion occures, everything flies in the sky and people dropping down everywhere. AWESOME!

So if you are into stratigy games, or just a "fan" of WOII... BUY THIS GAME, and you will NOT be disappointed..

Feel free to read my review on the base game to inform yourself about basic gameplay, as this expansion builds upon its strengths. Valor is mainly a multiplayer expansion IMO. It offers a single player campaign along with new weapons, maps, and special units (which can be used in multi.)

It also offer a few new multiplayer modes, my favorite of which is Stonewall mode. This is essentially a survival mode, where you and a few other players must defend against waves of enemies. The other two modes are Dota style, one with hero soldiers, the other with hero tanks.

The expansion doesn't bring anything new to the game except three short campaigns and minor changes to multiplayer arsenal composition. Alas, you can get it discounted and then its worth it. ;)

This game adds a lot more fun to an allready great game!

You can play with new units of which you can choose between before entering a skirmish

Campaigns is mostly the same, but in one of them, you get to control a Tiger Ace, which is an awesome campaign that only lacks in play time

The campaigns are very well balanced though the last one (Trun) was quite hard even on easy. The campaigns however were somewhat short and in total were about as long as the British campaign in the first expansion. The added game mods however are great and offset this nicely. A must have for any CoH player!

The actual expansion doesn't add all that much, a few new short campaigns, but it polishes the base game some more and unlocks all the factions for multi. Get it if you want more CoH goodness or as part of the complete set.

Great new content for the Company of Heroes series. I really like everything about Company of Heroes, the graphics, game play, story, units, control and strategy.

Comany of Heroes is one of the few RTS games I keep coming back to. It has both strategic and tactical elements and a depth that I don't find in many other RTS. The tales of Valor expansion however scews the balance of the teams and is not as good as the previous expansion.

If you really enjoyed the original and opposing fronts, You can get more content here. But if you are not a fan of the series, or you are new to the series, I would suggest that you keep to the original and the opposing fronts expansion.

A very nice game which bring you in the WW2 ! It has a great strategy part when you are playing in multiplayer...

But the platform Runic Game makes mistake when you are playing through the net.

If you only want to do skirmish and multiplayer, it the best choice, since unlock all faction for them. But for more traditional single player campaign the original + opposing front will give you better result, for campaign in Tale of Valor focus on heroes unit.

to all rts fans - company of heroes is must-buy game. tales os valor is no exception.

Besides being more a multiplayer expansion, it adds new campaings and modes to play the game. If you liked previous CoH games, you wont regret buying this one.

I keep returning to this game time and time again it's addictive and fun both the campaigns and playing online against others. I wish they would make sequel.

Although this was better then the expansion pack that came out before this in my opinion this stand alone game wasnt nearly as good as the original game. I wish they would have done so many things different, but even so its not bad and something the die hard CoH fan should pick up. This will probably collect dust on my e-shelf but hey it was fun while it lasted.

One of the most immersive and graphically impressive WWII strategy experience I've had!

COH is the best RTS. The graphics are astounding, the game play is original, and it is both tactical and strategic.

Pure Gold Game

The game is really nice, been dreaming of it quite long time, it is pure gold, great units, great graphics, great gameplay, i can't say anything more... 9/10

Three short but action-packed and unique campaigns plus the ability to play as four armies in multiplayer. Throw in a few extra 'award' units nd we have a winner here. If you can only afford one COH game, this is the one to get ! (if you can't find the complete collection at a discounted price, that is). Also, most of the mods on Relic Community now exclusively supports ToV, including the excellent Normandy '44 and the Eastern Front mods.

A solid addition to Company of Heroes, a great series. While this expansion has no new factions, the new gamemodes and units are fun. I do not think the new additions justify the price, and one should wait for a discount before purchase. Still, a solid expansion for any CoH fan, particularily fans of the multiplayer.

A great edition to the Company of Heroes. The extra content prolongs the game. The good the new missions are refreshing and new rewards for completing them are sweet. Only problem is the price, look for a deal because current price doesn't justify the content. The bad is no new faction just new vehicles.

Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor review

By Morboth posted 27th May 2010

Tales of Valor takes the Company of Heroes experience and improves upon it, and while a welcome addition it is not as groundbreaking as Opposing Fronts is to the original game.

What does it add?

1) New units: For the already existing factions it lets you customize your armies by letting you swap some units for new ones ToV has (examples: the M18 Hellcat can replace the default Tank Destroyer the Americans have, or the Schwimmwagen can replace the Panzer Elite's Kettenkrad), while not a drastic addition, they certainly add some depth to one's tactics.

2) Three new campaigns: Stop! Do not be deceived by the looks of it, these three new campaigns could very well take you 1 or 2 hours, as they are just three levels each. That said, they are mighty fun, it's a shame thay they didn't put some effort in making them longer, for they were pretty good.

The first one lets you play as Hauptmann Voss and his Tiger crew as they accomplish their legendary feat at Villers-Bocage.

The second one sees you take command of a company of paratroopers as they tackle the germans during D-Day.

The third one is about the Falaise Pocket, you are tasked to hold out as long as possible while the rest of the German forces abandon the area.

3)New multiplayer modes:

-Assault: If you've ever played Warcraft 3's mod "Defense of the Ancients" (DotA), you'll know what this is about... you get to choose a hero and make your way to the heart of the enemy base as you and your allies thwart the enemy's attempt to do so to your own.

-Stonewall: You are tasked with surviving against overwhelming odds... with waves and waves of unrelenting attacks.

-Panzerkrieg: You control a tank and must capture victory sites scattered across the map, destroying if possible enemy tanks in the process. When you control 2/3 of the victory sites, the enemy's victory points will begin to go down, the one who goes down the first losses. Killing enemy tanks takes a bunch of points from your enemies.

And that's pretty much it, it's OK... the new multiplayer mods are fine, the new units are OK and the campaign, while pretty good, is incredibly short... so unles you are a die-hard fan of CoH... stay clear of this add-on.

ToV: The SP campaign is a bit short but the game more than makes up for it with a vastly improved AI (for those who SP) , new MP modes (for those who MP) and a good double handfull of new units to play with. Also. ;)
