GAME SUMMARY

Cogs

Rating: 4.2 (66 votes cast)

Cogs is a puzzle game where players build machines from sliding tiles. Players can choose from 50 levels and 3 gameplay modes. New puzzles are unlocked by building contraptions quickly and efficiently.

  • Inventor Mode: Starting with simple puzzles, players are introduced to the widgets that are used to build machines — gears, pipes, balloons, chimes, hammers, wheels, props, and more.
  • Time Challenge Mode: If you finish a puzzle in Inventor Mode, it will be unlocked here. This time, it will take fewer moves to reach a solution, but you only have 30 seconds to find it.
  • Move Challenge Mode: Take your time and plan ahead. Every click counts when you only get ten moves to find a solution.

Cogs review

Brilliant indie brainteaser! I love stuff that makes me think in new ways. It's always satisfying. Cogs achieves just this. It starts with easy puzzles to get you acquainted with the mechanics, then goes berserk! It's awesome. I strongly reccommend it.

Very clever game! Combines the elements of slide, pipe and gear puzzles, in both flat and 3D planes. Each puzzle gets progressively harder, but so far I have found them all solvable with patience. An interesting feature is the the "awards" bonus for time and moves used. These become valuable for unlocking puzzles later in the game, forcing you to revisit earlier puzzles for better scores in order to progress. A very satisfying game indeed.

Cogs, cogs, and more cogs.

This one of the best brain exercisers ever. Simple easy to understand interface, get so you right into the game. Very intuitive puzzles, most have several ways they can be solved. Cogs reminds me of Crazy Machine, but with a 3D twist. Cogs is great for children and adults.

Problem solving fun.

This is a very smooth, well-designed puzzle-building game that will get you feeling like Thomas Edison, or Einstein, or somesuchperson. The music is repetitive, but it's good music that won't grate on your nerves. The sound effects are natural for cogs and steam pipes. While I do not like the 3D dimension puzzles much, all of the puzzles are very well designed, and the interface is very workable. The steampunk theme is also very tastefully done and is quite enjoyable.

I personally bought it on a low, low discount, as I do not dig puzzle games that much (though I will buy one for $2), but I needed blue coins. And I think I got a very good deal. I would not have bought it at its regular price of $9.95. But if you like puzzle games that boggle your brain while being fun and inspiring while having the mood of an inventor's game, this game might be worth 9.95 for you.

Cog my mind!

Extra puzzles for your mind?

Ok, this game makes a difference in puzzles as you knew it!

Great challemges as you increase levels.

But at some time you get a little bored (not for the puzzles) they're great! :just more of the same.

So , anyway is a good game. A meanwhile i would say!

It's a nice little puzzle game. The learning curve keep things interesting and the interface is solid in general. I'm not a fan of the genre but this the type of game that could make me change my mind.

I have to admit, Cogs never really got my attention upon its initial release. I like puzzle games, but when I saw the screenshots, it looked like a run-of-the-mill puzzle game, nothing inspiring at all. Then, it went on sale recently, and I took another look at the video trailer here on Gamersgate. The video was rather interesting, and for less than 5 bucks, it wasn't that bad an investment even if I ended up not enjoying the game.

To cut the long story short, as a sliding tile puzzle game, Cogs is polished to a perfect shine. It doesn't try to be anything else here, but there are every level is a unique variation of the setting. Some have you working on cylindrical objects, while some involve working on flip sides of a flat-planed object. The levels just don't feel repetitive at all, the music is very soothing (I play this to relax after hours of book-cramming), the graphics are smooth, and watching your "invention" come to life is a gratifying reward for the completion of a level.

Buying this is a no-brainer if you have the slightest interest in puzzle games.

This is a very good puzzle game combining the logic of working gears with traditional block sliding puzzles and spacial understanding of working in three dimensions.

Lots of puzzles so you don't finish it too quick and there are different modes of play to add extra challenges. That said, more levels would be really good. I hope there is a sequal.

My 7 yo loves it and I love helping him with it. He's learning a lot.

When I first heard about Cogs I thought that I might enjoy the game, and I wasn't mistaken, the game is just perfect! This 3D puzzle is really interesting and could have its own genre, it isn't like anything I have played before, it's not only about 3D, but also great physics.

I just wished it had more level, not only different gameplay modes.
