Deus Vult has been released nearly 3 years after vanilla Crusader Kings and definitively changed the experience for the better ; so much that I could not imagine going back. Thanks to that, the 2004 game that was Crusader King is still nowadays unmatched when it comes to playing cross-overs between RPG and strategy games in an historical setting. This expansion is certainly worth your interest if you still are a happy owner of the original version. If you are right now looking for a character-driven strategy game, then that's it ! Well, Europa Universalis Rome Vae Victis was for sure a nice appetizer in that regard for what Paradox could do in this domain with its latest engine, and CK2 is still very promising but while waiting, Deus Vult just remains this solid and enjoyable reference everyone can appreciate.

The game is set into a period of European history, when the ancient civilisation, stripped off of its entire superstructure and retaining only its basics in a system of fiefdoms, starts to recover and rebuild. Because of the socio-economic aspects of this era, more than ever the shape of whole countries was determined by personalities and character flaws of those in power. And this game offers unique "genetic" system, that reflects it: you can watch your dynastic characters grow and shape their personalities via events and their decisions, via making friends and enemies, who can one day help you to claim the crown, or who can also oust your dynasty from power. You can carefully chose spouses for your princes, spouses who might in future bring a very enticing dowry: a claim to some foreign throne! And what cant be solved by diplomacy and dynastic politics, can always be solved by a sword - military campaigns against fellow christians as well and against muslim saracens, and later against new scourge, mongol invaders - everything just to make sure, that your dynasty bearing your name will stay on the throne!

A Really impressive edition that streamlines the play of Crusader Kings, such as creating a search-able list for potential brides. If you Like CK you'll love CK-Deus Vult

If you buy it pray they will finally release the last patch. Random crashes are common, so save often.

But to be fair, there are some cool mods out there who make this worthwhile.

A good expansion that fixes interface issues, provides more content and events. There's simply no reason to pay Crusader Kings vanilla any more and that's always a good thing!

Crusader Kings is a very unique game with a deep experience. You don't play zoomed in battles, but play at the map level, focusing on the characters in the game, trying to move a dynasty into powerful titles, or if you start as a powerful dynasty, trying to keep them there. Unlike other games, it is not beneficial to try and take over "the world," and being too big can be a real source of duress. This game is not for everyone. This is the kind of game where decisions you make, such as who your character marries or who your son marries, don't have real consequences of boons until hours later. While youc an be a warmonger, there are some pretty harsh consequences for not playing by "the rules".

In addition to the standard affair, the event system is pretty detailed and can throw you a bone or a chink in your well run machine. The difference between having a wife that is in love with you or one plotting behind your back, destroying your reputation is huge.

The reason for the 3 stars is basicalloy, like a number of Paradox titles, this game is pretty buggy. It is not small bugs you run into either, but game breaking, what the heck happend kind of bugs. Playing as a single player, this bugs are managable. Throwing in just one or two others, and you're hitting bug city to the point where I just can't enjoy the mess. The other HUGE problem is this game has a massive learning curve, a terrible tutorial and some systems that don't make immediate sense. You're going to want to hit a Wiki page to figure out how things work and why events unravel the way they do.

I know this review sounds especially harsh, but I really enjoy this game and am very much looking forward to a great sequel, hopefully a cleaner release. This is as hardcore as you can almost get in the strategy department, and if that doesn't scare you off, then the bugs are probably going to be overlooked when you realize what a innovative, curious gem this game really is.

It's always best to buy collections because they have expansions for cheaper than buying separately. This one is fantastic for those who love to rule an empire and see how far they can take it. At first it seems the learning curve is high but really it is a very intuitive game, and as you play you will just naturally understand the hidden dynamics. Most people go wrong by warring too much and stealing titles - this increases your "bad boy" factor and soon your own people could rise against you. A typical game could last weeks, playing 8 hours a day, and it is so darn addictive that you will play 6+ hours straight. Don't forget to have male heirs because when you (as King) die, your son carries on with all your lands and titles. Buy this one and look for Crusader Kings 2 coming out in 2012.

Naturally with Crusader Kings on the horizon CK1 and its expansion pack, Deus Vult will disappear into the nostalgia of history. A shame really. However, if you want (at a cheap price) to see what inspired the hype surrounding CK2 I would definately suggest you buy CK and this expansion pack and give this slightly flawed gem a whirl. As Crusader Kings 2 draws nearer many will be booting this up in anticipation.

This expansion provided some much needed improvements to interface as well as adding even more detail and depth to the game, making it a great expension to the game. A must have!

A must need expansion for Crusader Kings. The streamlined ledger alone is worthy of the price as it makes it easier to find brides, manage vassal loyalties, and see where the next inheritance will be. This expansion adds on to the fun of Crusader Kings and makes it much better.

Deus Vult gives a great graphical overhaul which I feel is worth the price itself, the characters have been redeveloped nicely which adds alot more feel to the system.

Overall, if you like the original, this is a must have and you will need it. However, if, like me, the original didnt quite grab you and you feel this expansion wont help you, don't get it.

Crusader Kings is truly one of those games that I return to again and again even as I acknowledge the dated nature of the graphics and the clunkiness of the interface. It is truly on of the most charming of the Paradox titles, mostly due to it's unique playstyle. The game focuses on running a Middle Ages family and preserving the dynastic line more than national management, though there is definitely a fair share of running your lands and conquering new ones. Definitely a title I would recommend to anyone, though if you are not a fan of Paradox games this one is unlikely to sell you.

It really is worth the $$$ gives a nice change to the EU style games. The focus is more on keeping your dynasty healthy versus invading and capturing counties. Buy you will enjoy it!

I had played previous strategy games from Paradox (Europa etc.) and had recently wanted to try Crusader Kings seeing as i liked the era and the whole striving to keep your dynasty alive mechanics. I was quite impressed to say the leas especially with the Dues Vult expansion which adds alot of much needed improvements to the game along with some interface cleanups. Highly recommended to any who is interested in the series.

Great expansion pack, a must if you already own Crusader Kings. Some of the best mods are only for it, and it fixes/adds a good amount of features, making an already good game, a great game.

A really immersive game, where instead of just ruling a kingdom you overview the fate of a dinasty, or in other words, you have a much more close look at the characters which rule and their families and how thats affect the kingdom. While simple in graphics Crusader Kings is a really good game which offer almost unique experience.

Simply a must have if you enjoyed Crusader Kings even if you only enjoyed a little. The polish of the overall game from this expansion makes Crusader Kings that much better.

A wonderful add-on to Crusader Kings. Still no action like the total war series but with this expansion, many features are tweeked and A LOT of historical additions have been added. I was actually suprised by how in depth they went into each faction. Definately worth the money!

A must have add on to crusader kings. makes the game complete. Trust no one if you do not take care of them and even then they may revolt on you. ITs almost impossible to have a military victory so do not even try. This is a game of diplomacy and intrigue so if you are looking for a Total war type experince you will be dissapointed but its fun.

Deus Vult is key to having a long term and enjoyable experience with Crusader Kings. Adding much in the area of "user-friendliness" and tweaking the AI from the short bus to, at least, a mid-length bus helps fans pass the time before the anticipated release of CK2.

This is an essential upgrade to Crusader Kings. The AI has been improved, the ledger actually works now, the bridefinder is a sine qua non of playing this game, crashes have been reduced, and attributes/personality traits have been enhanced and expanded.

If you didn't like Crusader Kings but thought it had unrealized potential, try it with the Deus Vult expansion. In my opinion, it's the best historical strategy game in existence, and that includes newer releases.

Best of all, the expansion's success has led players to encourage paradox plaza to create CK2, and the sequel is now in the works!

A must have expansion. This expansion takes a great game and makes it amazing. I had Crusader Kings for over a year by itself before I bought this expansion and was amazed by the difference it made.

Ive had this game for a long time, and the game has gotten better and better with each patch. I cant wait till the next one comes out, but until then, i return from time to time even now to play a few hours of this classic.

One thing i dont like about paradox games likes the Europa universalis franchise is like the game is cheating so much that it can really be frustrating sometime, when you are limited for the same features (attrition, debt and so on)

This said, CK is an awsome game i like really much over Europa universalis 2 (at the time). Once again playing all available faction (christians, orthodox related) is awsome, too bad you cant play pagans or muslins in stock game.

There are a lots of mods for the game also that adds new campaigns historic eve,ts and interesting contents.

Crusader King is also on its way so its a good start to get CK1 and discover that franchise if you havent yet.

While the Vanilla Crusader Kings was an enjoyable game on its own, Deus Vult gives a felling of completeness to an already enjoyable game. Most of the features are graphical and UI related, but in a grand strategy game, this is always welcome. Things are more organized and easy to track, when selecting court members for high ranking positions, it now shows the skill level relating to that job, instead of having to have figured it out before making the appointment. It's also easier to see who's related to you, this comes in handy if you like to make advantageous political marriages, it's easier to see if a certain country is now under the rule of one of your grand children, which would make an alliance easier.

The game also features new traits, for instance, my daughter was ill and then went blind because of it, other times sick people will contract parasites. Altogether, this is a great expansion to an already enjoyable game.

The add-on that this is leaves one greatly relieved. The nature of the original game is woefully complex to the point of near madness trying to figure out who is in your bloodline or not. One of the minor but much appreciated changes is that now your family is marked with a drop of blood simplifying your plotting.

The game attempts to be a mix of empire-building and family management to draw in people who want to live the life of a medieval ruling family. Personally, it seems too individualistic to me but those who love it really would enjoy this game.

What 'vae victis' was to 'rome', des vult is to Crusader kings: a mix of add-on with patch with scenarios. It fixes a few problems, improves the game mechanics a bit and brings some new scenarios. Who liked Crusarder Kings will find this a good refreshment.

I bought both crusader kings and deus vult, and i have to say, these games are awesome! If you like being in control of nearly everything, then this game is for you. Paradox Interactive does a great job at strategy, and this was no suprise, so if you like Paradox games, you'll like this game as well.

If you're like me, this expansion's feature list won't seem much. Advertising a "Bride Finder" only makes the game look weird, right?

And yet, after a taste of Crusader Kings, with all it's great ideas and all it's execution problems, here you are again, wondering if DV is worth it.

Short story - it is. Do yourself a favour and buy this. It takes the whole idea and mechanics of CK and makes them work. The Bride Finder makes you wonder how ever did you arrange marriages before DV. The little blood symbol, such a simple thing, removes a ton of micromanagement. And best of all - no more Sultanate of Oslo by 1071!

Just don't go try to form Portugal with the Count of Braganza in 1066... Damned be those odds!

Definitely a much needed add-on. You should definitely think of getting this expansion pack in order to get experience the full experience of CK's mods.

Deus Vult makes an already great game, even better. You're now able to see who you're directly bloodrelated to, atleast on the male side, you can have friends, and you can gain rivals.

But the perhaps greatest addition, is to be found in the ledger, here you can see all potential brides & list them according to age, religion, stats and so forth, really removed one of the most tedious parts of the game. Also, there's some nice mods which adds a bunch of things, only for DV.

This expansion is highly recommended. If you end up buying Crusader Kings you may as well buy the Gold Pack as it contains the original + expansion in one package.

The newest beta patch on the paradox forums also requires the expansion (which contains several bug-fixes).

The game hasn't aged the best graphically, however it is still quite enjoyable to play and to be honest, after playing for an hour I started not to even notice the (lack of) graphics or graphical effects. The game becomes engaging. The initial impression can be a bit jarring however, but try to stick it out as there is a gem underneath.

This expansion for Crusader Kings has several features which I feel has improved the gameplay of the original; I especially like how penalties for having a too large demesne have changed. Also in this case, it is the small things that count; the changes to the interface (back buttons, a ledger) do make navigating through the game easier and other features (relations between countries and a stability modifier) bring the game more into line with features common to most Paradox games.

Deus Vult adds a much needed layer of polish and usability to Crusader Kings. On top of that, a slew of new attributes, events and more are thrown in for good measure.

If you have the original Crusader Kings, there really is no reason not to get this.

Crusader Kings Deus Vult substantially decreases the the bugs of its core game, while it adds grander and more stable features which only enhance the genius of Crusader Kings. The game allows the player to play from a Kings perspective, a dukes, and a counts, while struggling and weighing the political frailties of a Kingdom, or dukedom, or county. The ultimate purpose of the player is to create a ever lasting dynasty amidst the struggles and wars of the age to be proclaimed victor at the games end in 1452 AD, while allowing the player to begin play as early as 1066 AD.The game does have faults, and leaves the player with little options to do when ruling a smaller fiefdom, while managing a large kingdom can become overly complex with multiple vassals to rule and maintain, arranging marriages within your realm, and keeping track of dozens of claims on other titles that allow for war.I enjoyed the game very much, but improvement in the sphere of battles, and general organization of ones tasks and lands would be welcome features.

Crusader Kings was on its own the greatest medieval strategy game of all time and this add-on makes it just so much better. I really love the RPG elements of the game though it makes you feel like a part of the era and also gives you a great feeling of that time period’s politics where personal unions was the greatest base of power (perhaps even more than the church). Deus Vult, as the expansion to Crusader Kings, brings with it a slew of groundbreaking changes. Perhaps the most important is the newer, in depth character interaction systems. More than ever, the fate of your dynasty is in your hands, and with the numerous bug fixes included in this patch, it takes the "decent" game that Crusader Kings itself was, and transforms it into one that will surely be remembered as one of the best character-driven strategy games.

The features Deus Vult adds to Crusaders Kings are great. Bride finder option is rather helpful, now i needn't spend hours in search of prefect bride for my heirs. New events, new graphics, it all adds up onto already good game and makes it a great one.

Deus Vult brings an already great game (4/5) status to 5 star status in my book. The game is a fun dynasty simulation and provides a lot of strategy value. For those who like more tactical based games over strategy and empire building though might want to be wary, but its worth the try particularly for the price.

I bought Crusader Kings when it came out. Deus Vult improves it radically, as it is not only more stable, but has a number of features that improve on the original product, such as the Journal, which includes a Bridefinder.

I had no idea how much easier a Bridefinder would make the game - it allows one to sort potential brides by age, culture, religion, specific statistics, and also lists their modifying conditions. Instead of clicking every court in Europe while keeping one's fingers crossed!

An expansion pack that is very much worth the money.

Amazing. The game has the best dynastic system I've ever seen in any game, and it holds the power to make tens of thousands of characters without slowing even low spec computers down.

It can go totally sandbox, where random, ahistoric events are commonplace (like Germany collapsing and leaving an in for a Polish European empire, for example). Or you can set the mode so Europe is resistant to any kind of collapse.

The game is very easy to get into, but at the same time being one of the most detailed Paradox games out there. A must buy.

Deus Vult is simply put "A MUST". If you like playing Crusader Kings then you need DV.

CK is a very unique and innovative game but since it wasn't developed by Paradox it didn't quite rose to it's true potential.

Deus Vult tries to remedy that to some extent. DV can be seen as Paradox's attempt to make CK look a bit more like they would've liked it to be in the first place.

In the end it doesn't correct all the problems, CK even with DV remais somewhat unstable and many of it's features don't work too well.

All that said, if you played CK and liked it, like I and many others did, you know how amazing the gameplay, even with all the problems, can be.

If you liked CK then get this. If you are going to try CK then you NEED this even more.

A bit tiring at times. The game takes many things superficially, you wont be intervening much with the infrastructure, production or trade of your provinces. But you will be immersed in dynastic affairs, family, royal marriages, and all these issues will bring. In that regard, its rather an accurate simulation of medieval circumstances. However when your empire gets big, it becomes rather tiring to assure you have a loyal and large enough vassal base to appoint as lords for your domains. I started as a count of antioch, a pitiful pathetic lord, and carved out a small empire in holy lands, garnering numerous titles (2-3 prince titles, numerous counties and so on). It is actually a very good game in portraying medieval politics and strategy.

Deus Vult is really more of a glorified patch than a genuine expansion, as it really adds very little to the core gameplay of Crusader Kings. That said, it is absolutely required to anyone who wishes to play Crusader Kings in unbroken form.

Deus Vult fixes a lot of the original game's bugs, adds some functionality to the game's interface, and adds a handful of new events. Beyond this, Deus Vult has very little to offer that's actually new. Frankly, the expansion should have been released as a free patch, as a patch is precisely what it is.

The bug fixes, however, make this "expansion" an absolute requirement to anyone who owns the original Crusader Kings. Given how cheap both Crusader Kings and Deus Vult are, it's really not such an undue expense.

Deus Vult adds a number of things, best of them being the increased ability to hold your empire together. Playing Crusader Kings without Deus Vult was fun for awhile, but Deus Vult just adds so much onto it that it makes it a more worthwhile game. The interface takes awhile to get used to with the changes but that's the only bad thing and it's not a long lasting problem.

If you get Crusader Kings plan to get Deus Vult somewhere down the road. It'll really help your game.

When Deus Vult was first released, the game seemingly was in an 'early beta stage': tons of bugs, a broken economic map and more bugs (CTDs etc) which I felt were unacceptable, especially a game that I bought for 15 USD at the time. But now, since most of those mishaps have been fixed, I guess now I can forgive some of those previous shortcomings.

Deus Vult (version 2.1beta patch) is an enhanced version of CK, making management a little better with a somewhat useful game ledger, improved courtier categorizations and slightly improved graphics. The game can now be played at a higher resolution than the standard 1024 x 768 of Crusader Kings. Various new gameplay improvements can be found as well.

All in all, while not such a big leap from CK, Deus Vult is the definitive way to play Crusader Kings. I haven't touched Crusader Kings ever since I've started playing the now patched up Deus Vult.

Deus Vult delivers much needed eye-candy for the player. With a new interface and the general graphical overhaul the game looks better then ever before. The new stability aspect is also nice to have, but i don´t think it depict the state of your realm accurately.

Deus Vult adds many much-needed features and fixes to Crusader Kings. There is a better interface, more events, corrected crusades, more character traits, friends and rivals, and more province improvements. The game has been highly refined. It shows that the game can be more than what you think. I highly recommend buying this in addition to regular Crusader Kings.

As it has been said dozens of times before, you basically NEED Deus Vult if you have Crusader Kings. The improvements are all subtile but make a game that would otherwise be broken in vanilla. Perhaps the best reason to buy Deus Vult is that it is requited for most of the great mods that exist for CK.

I wouldn't play Crusader Kings without this patch. It made the game much more playable by solving many of the game killing bugs. In addition it increases fun in game play by adding more events that effect the grooming of your lineage. A must have: if you are an old CK player then play it again with DV and if you are a new CK player then don't play it without DV.

Bought it as soons as it was released and has enyoyed it ever since. The gameplay is awsome, and one can replay it forever. The only bad thing is that the game is still a little bugged for some players, causing some rare CTD's and savegame corruptions, and that the graphic is somewhat outdated.

If you own Crusader Kings, then you really have no reason to not buy this expansion. It improves the game hugely in everyway.

One could argue that the additions and fixes in this expansion should have been in Crusader Kings from the beginning, since it's only with Deus Vult that the potential of CK is fully realised. But with both the original game and the expansion costing €25 together, it doesn't feel like wasted money. If you want the most out of Crusader Kings, get this expansion as well. It adds way too much to the original game to be over-looked.

A must have expansion to Crusader Kings. This expansion has renewed my interest in the game and at a great value. Increased playability and better immersion come from this expansion. I would recommend giving it a try if you are a fan of medieval era politics and warfare.

A must-have addition for Crusader Kings. I experienced the same initial confusion about the interface that other reviewers have mentioned, but Deus Vult really cleans up the interface and enhances an already engrossing game.

If you are into Crusader Kings this expansion is a given purchase. An abundance of interface improvements and fixes gives you the ultimate Crusader King experience. If I were to mention one fix it would have to be the marriage-interface. No more need to search Europe for suitable brides!

This expansion is definitely needed if (like me) you tried Crusader Kings but were somehow disappointed by the tedious interface. The upgrade is necessary and now it is extremely easy to start breeding your own personal aristocratic lineage, generation after generation, to get princes well-fitted for their duty.

Anyway, this is Middle-Ages politics at its best. The numerous counties, duchies and kingdoms are very credible (even if some simplification occured here and there).

This expansion is essential if you want to get the most out of Crusader Kings. I am not kidding you on this one, it improves the playability and ease-of-play, as well as the gameplay, by roughly 9000%

This add on adds some pretty fun stuff on top of the old crusader kings. The upgrade of the visuals of each even was also a pretty nice touch. If you enjoyed the first one you will most likely be happy with the add on as well.

What shall i say about this game? Even the basic game was one of my favourites all time. Spent hours and hours on this and still playing it today. As i said the original game was awesome, but this expansion even adds so much to it to take it to a whole new level. While at first glance it seems the new options are only minor , the game is much more polished and gaming is smoother.

The basic qualities of this game remain, i might say forever: The unique dynasty system approach just makes it so much fun to lead your dynasty through the ages, most of the times you dont even care about the normal issues like wars , because it is so much fun to try and marry your oldest son to some stinking rich north Italian princess, that might give you acces to a title in the future...

This is absolutely the best Medieval Strategy game I've played next to Medieval Total War Origional. The best thing about this game is the dynasty building and all the things that can happen in your realm while you play a wargame of the ages.

It is in real time, but, you can select the speed you want to play in. I always use Slow mode for the most part an occassionaly move up to normal when things are sort of slow or boring.

You simply MUST get DEUS VULT along with Crusader Kings when you buy as DV adds so much more to the game and at the prices they are now it is a STEAL for any gamer who has interest in Medieval times.

This game allows you to play so many different ways from just a mere count and try to work your way to owning your own kingdom to duke starting out in the middle and gaining vassals and more duke titles to finally a King of it all and passing out duke titles if you so desire working your way to being cannonized in your own glory or the greatest prestigious pious king of all times.

One of my other favorite ways to play is start out as a count work my way to duke and then when I have 20-25 provinces under that realm I give it up to the computer ai and start over. Usually as a son of the character I gave it to just in case I might want to have a war with him someday in the future when I rebuild my own dukedom from scratch again.

I liken this to like The Sims comes to Medieval times without all the bathroom visits. haha

You really can't go wrong buying this group of games CK + DV and in this day and time it's hard to find a game that will give you so much entertainment and that just one more ingame month of play feeling.

This expansion pack adds a number of things to the game. Introducing new features and tweaking old ones, make Crusader Kings signifigantly better than it is out of the box. Still they removed a couple of things such as the breeding of characters (apparently the engine can't handle Paul of Duneesque supermen) and they did not add any new campaigns. If you did not enjoy the original Crusader Kings, this expansion pack is really not for you. If you did enjoy the original however, Deus Vult offers I nice amount of additional content for a adequate price, although it may leave you feeling like it was more of a super-patch than an actual expansion pack.

This is an exceptional expansion to the base base game. It is very much like the EU3: Napoleon's Ambition x-pack. Simply put if you own Crusader Kings you cant live without this x-pack.

Crusader Kings has got to be the best pure strategy simulator ever conceived of for a game based in the middle ages. The entirety of Western civilization revolved around heraldry and Crusader Kings is the only game to ever completely revolve around it.

Crusader Kings was a fresh and innovative new game, but clunky and difficult to play at times. With Deus Vult, the clunk and difficulty practically disappear. Aside from the occasional fatal error, this 'expansion' is breath of fresh air for a game I had relegated to collecting dust.

Never again will I spend half an hour or more scouring Europe for a suitable bride for an heir... simply fantastic. One click over to the ledger and you can sort potential brides by any number of qualities. New events, new traits, friendships and rivalries, this isn't exactly an expansion but it feels like it. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking to give an old beauty another spin.

About a year ago, I bought Crusader Kings. It was clear to me that it was a well made game, but I didn't really enjoy it in the same way I had enjoyed Europa Universalis 2. I only played it for a short while, and thought that the game was annoying. I did enjoy the first hour, each time I started playing as a new dynasty. But many different aspects made playing the game a painful experience.

Now when Deus Vult came out, I decided to give the game a new chance. And it was a good decision Deus Vult makes Crusader Kings, much more playable and enjoyable, and I have played the game for many hours. No longer do I have to search for an eternity to find a suitable wife for the liege. Everything is just more polished. I can definitely recommend this expansion!
