Hilariously derpy budget shooter from a Polish studio. (Also: Techland's recent games Dead Island and Call of Juarez are in newer iterations of the same game engine used in Chrome. Not really relevant to the quality of this game, but interesting.)

The gameplay is solid but forgettable, but the game was really pretty fun, as far as standard FPSes go.

The protagonist is inexplicably voiced by Jon St John of Duke Nukem fame, however, which was a nice bonus, and probably the only thing that this game stands out for.

Chrome is a sci-fi FPS which casts you as a bounty hunter tracking down the former partner who set you up. In the course of your travels you'll travel to many different planets and get caught up in a much larger plot. One of Chrome's best features are the levels, which are very large and wide open, allowing for a fair amount of tactical gameplay. Vehicles are included to help cut down on the travel time, although they're not greatest in terms of handling. Chrome has a decent plot that will keep you playing, and there's a fairly good multiplayer mode too. Chrome isn't the best FPS ever made, but it's fairly solid overall.

It can be a hard FPS due to the very good accuracy of the AI. Don't get me wrong, this isn't Alpha Prime in terms of difficulty, but at some points you might get frustrated. The world the game is taking place is ok. There are better FPS games out there, and there are worse. The game doesn't excel at any point, but the fun factor playing the game is higher than the sum of its parts.

If 4.99 euros (price I see it now) isn't much for you and you want to spend few hours playing an average FPS (think of it as Halo's beta if you wish) with sci fi tones, then it won't disappoint you. If you are looking for a quite good FPS that will remain memorable for some time, this ain't it.

Worth the price.

Chrome is a pleasant shooter, especially for its price. Set in Science Fiction universe it takes you around as a Mercenary trying to get back on your feet and to get revenge for being betrayed by your partner at the begining of the game.

Various missions in scenic locals allow take many differing approuches and gives a high replayablity. The gameplay is the standard fps affair - running, jumping, some puzzles, vehicle sequences. They all mold together to form a pretty decent experience.

The graphics, while outdated now still look quite good for a game released in 2004, and they do a fine job of giving an atmosphere.

Overall, for the price you will not be disappointed with the game.

Not a good shooter. And yeah, I realise most people knew this already. But after loving Call of Juarez, I had a hard time believing Techland could ever have made a first-person shooter that wasn't fun. I was wrong. The weapons feel weak, enemies react too fast, are too accurate, don't react convincingly to being shot... I could go on like this. In a simple shooter like this, all you really need is the simple shooting to feel right. It doesn't.
