GAME SUMMARY

Ceville

Rating: 4.1 (83 votes cast)

The mean cruel cold blooded tyrant Ceville ruthlessly rules the beautiful kingdom of Faeryanis. Or rather, he used to rule the beautiful kingdom of Faeryanis, until the brave people revolted against his regime and drove him out of the palace.

The kindhearted queen Gwendolyn did step up to reign over the land with a council of noble and wise advisors.. It seems that this story could end just like any other fairy tale: "And they lived happily ever after..." But no, that's not quite right. Because another evil rises within the land. The treacherous Basilus - counsellor of Gwendolyn and of Ceville before her - plans to take the crown and torture the realm with the help of murderous beasts he has summoned from the planes of eternal darkness.

All seems lost! But hope resides with the one most unlikely person imaginable to save the kingdom and restore peace to the realm: Ceville, the realm's former despotic ruler...

Three playable main characters:
Ceville, the ancient ruler of Faeryanis and spare-time tyrant, Ambrosius, the noble and somewhat self-important knight and Lilly, the gentle and kind little girl.

This game will give you an impression of what happens, when you mix up the setting and humour of Shrek, Discworld and the Monkey Island series.

Features

  • Classic Point and Click Adventure
  • Up to three simultaniously playable characters with weird but loveable personalities
  • Bizarre characters from stock-broker dwarves and hippie-elves who populate the fairy- tale realm of Faeryanis

  • Tons of humour

This game is from the same team that brought us Ankh and Jack Keane. The art style might not please everyone, but apart from that it's a nice 3d adventure. Puzzles are logical most of the time but can get hairy sometimes. Playthrough is around 11 hours. Good voice actors! Beware, this is English only (not multilanguage)!

Ceville is a pretty solid point and klick adventure game, with pretty reasonable puzzles, even of they often ends up as "klick on everything to check if there's a combination" type of puzzles.

However since it's in 3d and often changes the view some items you'll need may be hidden behind your inventory bar, wich to me was quite irritating until I noticed that the space button popped text over every item.

But in the end games like this mostly relies on a solid story or a good sense of humor, wich Ceville really isn't lacking.

So if you like these type of games I could see you do a lot worse than this one.

This was a great game as long as you could get through it awhile without it deciding to crash. Thankfully it auto-saves every five minutes so any damage caused by this is minimal. My favorite part is using Ceville at the fairy's house. It is amazing how truthful it is considering that it is evil in someways and yet liberating and good in others. It is an interesting situation to be able to be evil and good at the exact same time, which is something this game does very well. I also feel that this game works well as a piece of satire covering today's age. I might have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the crashing, though that may have been due to my frequent Alt tabing to view a walk-through.Also a tip, double click to run even if you are clicking something to get there. This speeds up the game a great deal and can sometimes shortcut traveling cut scenes which can be long in a few places.

I really liked this one. The cartoonish graphics are a favorite of mine. Add to that an excellent soundtrack, great voice acting, and the funny interactions between characters. This instantly became one of my favorite adventure games

Ceville is one, nasty little tyrant, who is ruling the fairy tale kingdom with an iron grasp. Or he was until that pesky do gooder paladin threw him off his throne. So now he must do everything in an orderly, adventure game fashion to get himself back to the throne.

Ceville is a full 3D game, with a nice, cartoon art style. Voice acting is mostly good enough, but does include a couple of misses as well. The parody fairy tale world is a good setting for the plot, but I felt it wasn't utilized as well as it could have been. Also some of the jokes do require a basic knowledge of other games and popular culture as well.

The puzzles are mostly pretty easy, though a couple of a bit tougher ones are in as well. But for seasoned adventurers Ceville shouldn't provide that hard of a challenge. Some variation to the puzzles is provided by the need to use several characters in some of the puzzles, but those situations are clearly presented as such.

In a word, not the greatest among adventure games, but clearly above the average.

This game works fine on my Windows 7 laptop; however, my Windows XP laptop couldn't keep up with the graphics.

Ceville is an adventure game in the old style of Monkey Island. Beautifully designed, animated and voice-acted, it's a shame the game hasn't quite received the level of recognition it deserves.

THE GOOD

The number of old style games and other franchises referenced in Ceville is pretty amazing. So far - I haven't finished it yet - I've run across Asterix and Obelix, Star Wars, Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island (a couple of the puzzles are quite similar to those in that series) Dungeon Keeper, American Idol (or X-Factor, or something along those lines ;)) and even a small nod to Indiana Jones.

You can press Spacebar to see where the interactable spots are. Vital in this game (see BAD below).

You can double-click to run, or to go directly to one place.

The graphics are good. Likewise the voice acting and the music.

The puzzles are also good; just tough enough to have you scratching your head sometimes, and just easy enough to figure out not to leave you running around in frustration.

The game Autosaves every three to five minutes, which is a fantastic idea; I wish more games did that. It also means that if you miss a cutscene, you can get back to that point without having to replay hours of work (No, there's not just one Autosave; every single Autosave is in that Savegame file!)

The two-character mode. This adds an extra dimension to solving puzzles as you have to work out which character would be best; Ceville will do anything so long as it's evil enough, while Lilly balks at doing (or indeed saying) anything 'mean'.

The humor's not bad. It's not clutch your sides and roll about in the aisles standard, but it's still fair.

THE BAD

It's too easy to skip cutscenes. You can click through speech, but click too quickly and the game will take it as a double-click and skip the whole thing. It would have been better if the game had a completely separate key to skip cutscenes.

People say that some objects are 'hidden away'. All objects can be found with the helpful Spacebar. However, their hotspot (or interaction point, if you prefer) is usually several pixels away from their location (a bunch of grapes was on a desk in the game, but the 'Grapes' hotspot was right up in the top right corner). Not sure what causes this, but it's irritating. About the only way you can be sure of finding them is to hold the Spacebar down and interact with the hotspots as opposed to the images.

AND THE JUST PLAIN MISC:

While most of the references make sense even if you don't know which game the characters are talking about, one or two seem completely off the wall; eg, when Ceville mentions he's tempted to read a story to that horse over there, but he doesn't have one, Lilly responds: "What would you do with his teeth, anyway?" Anyone who has played Day of the Tentacle will get the reference; anyone who hasn't will be scratching their heads and going "Huh? Where did THAT come from?"

All in all, this is a thoroughly fantastic game, rated 5 stars. If you enjoy adventure games like Monkey Island, buy this today. You won't be disappointed.

This is another European (read: German) point and click game that would easily get overlooked by people in the US who think Telltale is the only company making good adventure games. It actually has a great style and a rather unique spin on the traditional PC adventure game. The main character is definitely more than a little antagonistic. It's a very funny game and has great production values. Don't overlook gems like this just because there isn't a lot of hype in the US. It's well worth your time.

I was really skeptical, because everybody said how funny it is. But being a Point & Click Adventure fan I had to try it.

The slightly twisted humor for which Kalypso is quite know for, also translates into this genre really well. The one downer, though is that the PEGI 7 is there there for a reason. Ceville´s ´evilness´ is quite mild and the overall tone is less punchy or ´Pythonesque´ as it could have been, or as the game descriptions and trailer suggest. That is even more true with Ceville´s child sidekick Lilly. And while they actually are quite funny when put together in situation comedy sequences, the actual script is more amusing that bursting out funny.

If you take Ceville for what it is though - a sunny holiday trip to a lovely landside with friends - you will have a jolly good time. And I love it for that.

An intruiging adventure game providing players with the chance to play a character less 'moral' or 'squeaky clean' than your typical 'all action hero'. Indeed, Ceville often needs *something* to reach things of normal height to other characters...

Two things to note:

1. Even though you can more quickly with double clicks, moving between scenes can get rather repetitive.

2. Some objects are squirreled away in difficult to see places.

Otherwise, it's definitely a good, friendly comedy game. Probably comparable with Toonstruck.

The description is right! It contains tons of humour! It is totally hilarious! I really recommend this one. Actually, I bought this game for someone and not for me, but after watching her play the game, I liked it! Some puzzles are hard to figure though, and Sti (above) is correct about some cutscenes can be accidentally clicked away so be careful when trying to click too much, you might miss something important.

What really attracted me about this game is about the personality of the protagonist 'Ceville' which is according to the description, 'evil', when in fact, its not being evil, it is just being ironic. If you read a lot of quotes from linux cookie, mostly taken from great critics like Ambrose Bierce, Dave Barry and others, you would probably understand what I'm saying. Unfortunately, I can't quote some of the lines from Ceville or I might risk spoiling the game story.

With regards to graphics and sound, of course this isn't like those FPS or RTS games that relies on the graphics to sell, this is just a point-and-click type adventure that doesn't need great graphics to attract players. The story, the homour, the character personality are the selling point of this type of game, so don't expect a very stunning graphics.

I gave this a 5 out of 5 rating and I totally recommend this game specially for those who like a lot of humour or for those who just want a less serious game.

This is an excellent adventure game with great humour. But it does sometime crash while accessing the map screen. A must buy for fans of comedy adventures

Quite fun adventure game. You play the evil (toppled) king living in a world full of stereotypical characters.

While technically sound, it is unfortunately very easy to accidentally click away whole cut scenes and miss parts of the story.

Out of 100's of titles that come out every year, once in a very short while you find a gem in a crowd of quickly made games. This takes you back to the old school adventure gaming, when gaming was more fun, rather than spending too much effort to dazzle you with the latest graphics enhancements. While it does not stretch the boundaries of the latest graphics cards, it certainly makes you feel you did well with what you paid for.
