This game is fantastic! The Cave reminds me of classic Day of the Tentacle and uses new technology to tell a new story with a very classic feel to it.

The game has its funny moments. All in all it is for me a little bit to casual. It is not an adventure game, if you expect that. It ist more like a jump and run with funny characters and dialogues. Not less, not more. On top of that it is made to be played multiple times with different character combinations as you choose three characters to go into the cave and discover its secrets.

All in all a good game.

Just installed this game and love it. It is a vibrant world with great graphics and fun gameplay and it is a game that I can play with my kids since up to three players can play at once. I definitely recommend this game.

The Cave review - Good, but not perfect

By DocKuro posted 24th April

The Cave is overall a good old style game, it has nice quests and funny characters.

A big downsize to all this is that you _must_ select 3 characters to play (in a similar way to the old maniac mansion) but the characters are 7... so you have to play 2 of them 2 times.

If they were 9 it would have been perfect, but even 8 would feel good... 7, in my opinion, is the worst choice.

But, as I was saying, apart from this little defect, it is a really good game that will let you have some fun hour.

With clever, compelling puzzle design and thoughtful attention to detail, The Cave will not disappoint fans of the genre. Each character's backstory is lovingly crafted and though sometimes lacking in morals - they are never lacking in charm. Some clunky controls and a few graphical hiccups will not detract from the experience. Well deserving of a place in your game collection.

A good all adventure game with comics-like design and a good variety of characters which provide a good replayability.

Discover the real goal of every explorers, use your brain, and listen to the voice of the cave as you go deeper and deeper in "him".

A fabulous game, so ironic and deep, that I've rarely seen before.

Ron Gilber and Tim Shafter are masters of adventure game for so long time, and again, they can create a title with humor and fun.

Buy it.

An absolutely cute game, with a great story telling and the well-known charm of the creator. Would be 5 star if not for some technical glitches and rather poor performance on lower-end hardware. Macbook Air 2011 handles it not so well, but it may be just a mac port issue.

A great puzzle platformer that some may call a modern adventure game.

The adventure game aspect comes from strong story telling, item based puzzles and quirky humor. The Cave itself (himself?) narrates the game and there is some NPCs involved. Every selected characters affects the story and have own themed "levels".

Items doesn't go into inventory but every character can carry one item (and still climb ropes, jump normal high etc) and the item usually is used in close range. So you won't be carrying everything you see to the end like old school games.

The game is platformer, but you won't see enemies to jump on or shoot at. There are few "enemies", but you have to realize that they are puzzle enemies so if you can't use items or abilities to get pass those, just avoid them for a while. And you won't be running from left to right, direclty from start to the goal, but you have to run search around the level and use multiple characters in different places to unlock the story and continue to deeper the cave.

I would say the Cave is 75% platformer and 60% adventure game, there is just enough overlapping aspect to make the game whole and natural. It is like funny Lost Vikings minus some deadlines, with even more humor and stronger story.
