Bet on Soldier

Rating: 3.3 (19 votes cast)
This war is different... It wasn't started by religious conflict or territorial desires. Nobody really knows why it began. Eighty years of war pulls a shadow down over the past.

Two massive federations manage the war like a business. Their employees are mercenaries, valued on the stock market and paid per kill. But for the elite soldiers in this war, that pay is not enough.

The Bet on Soldier programme was created to entertain and to make a greater profit from the greed of the elite warriors. When two such soldiers compete, wagers may be placed on the outcome... providing a healthy income for battle-hardened veterans and sport for the masses.

  • A First-Person Shooter developed from the innovative Kt engine... the final product of 6 years Research and Design.
  • Bet On Soldier takes full advantage of pixel and vertex shaders, advanced specular effects, and a proprietary physics engine.
  • More than 40 different weapons and 40 elite champions to bet against and fight.
  • Levels set in Europe, Alaska and Cuba.
  • Up to 32 players spread over 8 warrior classes in multiplayer mode.

Brutal!

By Vyranthas posted 2nd March

This game is certainly an interesting take on the first-person shooter genre. I like how you can, at the beginning of each mission, customize your character by purchasing different armors and weapons - as well as hiring NPC's of your choice that will fight alongside you. The shooting is fun and has a pretty heavy feel to it, and seeing the enemy's armor getting demolished shortly before you land the killing shot is pretty awesome. The graphics are quite good as well for a game that is several years old. The only real negative aspect of the game is that it's quite challenging and can sometimes feel a bit unforgiving. Of course... this comes down personal preferences - I'm sure that some people would find this to be an integral part of the experience (especially since it fits in quite well with the general outline of the game). I'd say that if you enjoy shooters and you're up for a challenge you should definitely give this title a shot!

Not too bad

This isn't the most amazing FPS but for its time, it is quite enjoyable. The arena style combat with bosses can be quite addictive. Unfortunately, the voice acting rates down there with Dynasty Warriors.

Then again, who buys an FPS for the voice acting?

Bet on Soldier review

I have read a few bad reviews about this game and quite honestly I don't see why. I found Bet On Soldier to be a solid, enjoyable FPS. It has an Unreal Tournament inspired story, but game play is much less frantic. In fact, completing the missions in this game will take some time and thought. Everything costs money, weapons, armor and ammo. You will need to pay for armor repairs and buy ammo as each mission progresses, and management of these items adds some depth as you can find yourself running out of ammo and your armor falling apart. You can also hire one or more mercenaries to go along with you on a mission, and there are several types, like an engineer with limited combat abilities but can repair your armor. You have rudimentary commands for guiding them, but if not handled carefully they tend to die fairly easy. Each mission will have one or more "boss" fights, a one on one duel with lots of money on the line. You can still complete the mission if you lose a boss fight, but who wants to lose, pride is at stake.

Some folks have had issues with the game's DRM, I was lucky enough not to, and I don't think that issue carried over to the digital download version and was limited to the CD version. The graphics are dated by today's standards but still pleasing enough, sound and voice acting are good. I liked the game enough to play it several times and will probably play it again sometime in the future.

Bet on Soldier review

This is a Shooter where you're one of a Champion in Bet on Soldier Program. Champions fight for their money and life. You can customize your loadout on mission briefing and gives you some variety on it, ranging from pistols, shotguns, rifles and heavy weapons like rocket launcher or miniguns. You can also have shields that can be combined with light weapons(like pistols, Shotguns or SMGs), and sidekicks who fights on your side. Also you can pick champions you wish to fight in the mission. This affects some parts of the difficulty and its presentation looked good. In the battle, you can resupply yourself and save data(Saving in battle costs money here!) at stations around the level. The rest of battle it's pretty much a indifferent FPS. The letdown for me was performance/crash issue, and short length of gameplay. Though not a bad shooter for $19.99 range.
