Wide diversity of troop types are implemented, including: light infantry; dragoons; siege artillery; rangers; Indian warriors; marines; militias; ships of the line; frigates and lake flotillas. One of the best wargames i have ever seen, the Independence campaign is awesome. A little bit difficult for casual gamers but strategy enthusiast will enjoy it. For spaniards: there is also an option for spanish language, but you must apply the lastest patch.

Good game with flaws caused by being the first to use the engine. If I were looking for a similar game now, I would go with Birth of America 2.

I'm giving Birth of America 5 Stars, not because it is one of the best games presently available in this genre. But simply because, it is too good a strategy game not to be in any strategy enthusiasts collection. Obviously the more recent version of the game has improved on BoA a lot, but BoA remains a completely coherent, engrossing, indeed challenging and realistic strategic modeling of the conflicts in North America during the time period.
