Brothers in Arms Hells Highway review

The game takes place after Earned in Blood, centering around Operation Market Garden in the later stages of the second world war. Matt Baker reprises his role as the main character. This time however you don’t just watch the entire game through his eyes, story segments and all. Gearbox this time used cut scenes that could have been taken straight from an epic movie like Saving Private Ryan or a series like Band of Brothers. The feel, the looks, the sound, … everything is absolutely amazing. You can clearly tell that this is the third installment for the consoles because the voice actors and the developers have this thing down to an art.

Not only are the cut scenes top notch, but the story is absolutely amazing as well. This is one of the rare games that actually had me shed some manly tears. If you’ve already played this game, you probably know which scene I’m talking about. With Baker and Hartsock.

To add to the realistic feel of the game, the developers remade Holland quite well, having Dutch characters talking actual dutch as well.

And then there’s the great soundtrack that is just perfect of a World war II shooter of this scale.

In the end however, there’s a still a few things that need to be mentioned. The graphics show that it’s a 2008 game, though it’s still amazing. The voice acting might be superb but the weapons sound funky. And you need to have played the previous games to really get the full experience of the story, even though the game does a dang good job of keeping you informed.

the focus on squad tactics and strategy forces the player to think and plan out moves rather than just running in and gunning like most FPS, the difficulty is toned down but not to the point where you will breeze through it but it's difficulty is forgiving but still posing a challenge i certainly had fun with this game as would anyone looking for a good squad shooter

Easily the best Brothers in Arms game, Hell's Highway eschews the crappy A.I. and cliched story of the first two games and presents an HBO-worthy experience. The graphics are gorgeous and the gunplay is very satisfying. The environments are also varied and the atmosphere is top-notch. A few poorly designed levels and frustrating sequences prevent this game from getting a full five stars. Still, you won't be disappointed.

Very good FPS, and it is very focused in actua squad tactics rather then the 'blast them!' kind of game that you find in other franchises. Whoever liked the first Brothers in Arms will like this sequel, which feels a lot like the previous, only with enhanced graphics and looks. In my opinion it looks very current, having nothing of 'old' when it comes to eye candy.

This game is well done and polished in every aspect. Furthermore it's very challenging and tactical. Don't expect a first person shooter, it's more of a tactical squad game in first person view.

Even today the graphics are quite pleasing, the sound is absolutely thrilling and authentic, if you've seen "Band of Brothers" you can expect the same audio from the game.

The gameplay is surpressing and flanking, somewhere in between blowing stuff up, and it basically comes down to a chess-like game where you have to outmanouver the germans. It's pretty much the same all game long, but the incredible atmosphere at least kept me going.

It's an underrated game, because it does nothing really exceptionally well besides the authentic look and feel, but overall it is really, really enjoyable if you're into WW2 and tactical games. As i compared the two before, it's basically Gearbox's take on BoB, and for the most part it succeeds.

- Story is so good, that i would like to see this in big screen.

- You can give orders to your team mates and this is made so simple to use that it dont take your time too much from you.

- Graphics are good looking and there is some gore and its not so clean than othes this genres games.

- Gore don't go too far, but you see legs and hand blown apart and even some damage to head.

Bottom point is: This game is worth playing and when compared to another same priced "B" products, you get "AA+" title.

What's worth noting is that every single aspect in this game is done very well. Graphics, music, and plot - you just won't be disappointed. The only thing which could be slightly improved is the fact that there is too much repeatability. You do the same all over again. But the game is rather on the short side, so probably you will have no time to get bored :)Anyway - my recommendation.

I saw this game going cheap one weekend on Gamersgate & I thought "what the hell...I'll give it a go." I wasn't disappointed in the gameplay at all its a nice little tactical shooter. I'd played the original BIA on PS2 a few years before so kind of knew what I was getting.

Lots of cool little settings that you end up having firefights in, which have nice little details to them. The main objective in supress & flank your enemy, you don't have to be a tactical genius to figure out what flank to take, but theres a few spanners thrown in the works to make it more challenging. Lots of authentic weapon sounds & uniforms thrown in for relism.

The game was a bit on the short side (I finished it the weekend I bought it) and the "tank" levels felt a bit arcade-like for me. The storyline is very melancholic. If I'd have served in this squad I would have looked for a transfer asap.

If you like the WW2 genre & can get it cheap give it a go.

I really liked this game. There were som intensive firefights where my adrenaline started pumping. I'm really more into CRPG's, but this game grabbed my attention. The graphics are also quite beautiful, and suits the game fine. The narrative is also interesting, especially as I just saw Band Of Brothers before playing.

So I can recomend this game to anybody who likes an FPS with tactical elements, and some adrenaline pumping action!

Brother in Arms on the jump to the current generation lost some of its uniqueness, becoming more accessible in the process. The game is best described as a WW2-themed, more tactical but less dynamic version of Raimbow Six Vegas. You are in charge of two Allied teams and you can easily direct them to take cover, attack and so on, but, unlike the first two games, you have a Call of Duty style health regen and your aim is much, much more stable. That makes the teamwork almost pointless at times, since you are nearly unkillable and too many times you can just set up your teams to "lock down" the nazis on their place while you flank them alone (and even if your mates die, they resurrect after the fight). The AI is nearly non-existent, as every move of the nazis is scripted (or at least it seems that way): they can retreat completently, but they don't really pose a threat to the player unless some AI trigger fires. This, coupled with the somewhat swallow and mechanical gameplay and a mediocre "feel" for the weapons, contributes to keep the tension quite low, which for an FPS is not a good thing. The graphics are good, the story and narration is quite good (but if you haven't played the previous games you won't understand much), the cover system works well, the level design is good, if not very inventive, but overall Hell's Highway is a very average FPS.

A movie brought to the gamer. Really this is an interactive movie that is a lot of fun. This game stands apart from farcry 2 and Assassins creed since it doesn't get boring after just 2 hours of play, you get to the end and wish for more.

The combat is quite a bit of fun, it doesn't let you run and gun like a lot of world war II shooters, you have to plan every move you and your troops do if you plan to survive Mony's failed invasion into Germany.

If you took Call of Duty 1 or 2 and mixed it in a pot with Rainbox Six: Vegas, you’d have a pretty good idea of what Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway is like — a linear FPS with tactical, squad-based elements. I picked it up a few months back and I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of it, though it took longer to download than for me to play through.

The game itself is ok — good, but not great. I’ve had fun with it, but it’s probably not a game I’ll ever return to the way I have with Fallout 3 or even Far Cry 2. However, if you can get it for a good price (i.e., $15 or less) and you’re a fan of WWII shooters, you could do worse than picking up Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway.

This is a true tactical shooter that offers a decent pie of realism. You must command your squad with an easy to use and intuitive interface and you can do it with great precission. Also the graphics and story are nice, bringing together all good things into a single game. The only thing I would have like to see more, would be to go trough the whole story as another character for extra replay value. But that should not stop you from buying this great game. Enjoy!

This is a excellent continuation of the series. If you loved the others in the series you will love his one. I agree that the game is a little on the short side but still worth picking up and playing

Its been my favourite title in the series. Great storyline and graphics! I was disappointed, with the short game...only a few hours worth of gameplay, but that is about it in terms of neagative points. Next time, I would hope there are more missions...

This was a very good game. I couldn't find a less expensive site out there offering this game for under $30 so getting it for 14.95 and it being a fairly recent game sold me on the game. Game was 29.95 in a major outlet chain not gonna mention name but you know them... Very similar to BIA Hill 30 but still a very good game on its own merit. It's a big file so be warned it will take a while to download. It kept getting interupted and took almost 15 hrs to download on my DSL so be prepared it's over 6.3GB in size and my comp downloaded at 125kb so you can figure it out.

I'm not going to spoil anything but the game slides in and out of cutscenes but if you've played the predecessor you are already used to this. Again you can't play in realistic mode until you complete the game in a lessor format. Completing it took me less time than it did to download the game but there are some frustrating parts that you need to just try various times over before you move on. At one stage I couldn't figure how to get past a certain stage and was tempted to look up hints, rough it out though and I'm sure you'll figure it out for yourselves. It can be done and there is a solution once you figure it out. One thing to note... although you can command bazooka teams, machine gun teams, assault teams and base fire teams and drive tanks, I didn't see anytime when I was able to command a mortar team. That's about the only thing in the game hype text box above that seemed msleading.
