This epic sequel will immerse you in a world of intrigue, adventure and fierce combat where your ability to discern the difference between these sides - with the assistance of steel and spell - determines your fate.

In Baldur's Gate I, you defeated your evil half-brother Sarevok and prevented your father Bhaal, the dead Lord of Murder, from returning to the Forgotten Realms. Now, in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, the stakes have become much higher. Will you resist the evil within you, and forge a legend of heroic proportions? Or will you embrace your monstrous inner nature, and carve a swath of destruction across the Realms?

Your story begins anew in the exotic southern kingdom of Amn, amidst the opulence of the sinister capital city of Athkatla. Journey through the fierce, unforgiving wilderness of Amn, and through the treacherous caverns of the Underdark, in your quest for artifacts of awesome power and treasure of inestimable wealth.. even challenge dragons, if you dare. Such is the life of a legend.

Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal
The road lies open before you. It is forever twisting and turning, leading you through the darkest unknowns, to the heights of glory. Yet as a Child of Bhaal, your path is inescapably clear to you - it has already been prophesized. From your humble beginnings in Candlekeep, to the dungeons of Durlag’s Tower, and through the lands of Amn, your dark heritage has relentlessly shadowed you. Now it is time to grasp the destiny that is yours and enter into a war amidst the other Children of Bhaal which rages across the lands of Tethyr. Your road has once again veered towards danger, and you choose your course with caution. But you know that as long as Bhaal’s Throne of Blood stands empty, chaos shall reign.

The last of an era

By sotos_68 posted 2nd May

Baldur's Gate II! The last of the grand RPG's of the 1990s and the game with which Bioware made its name as a successful studio. Improving on the original Baldur's Gate in pretty much everything, it offers a much more open and satisfying experience.

Older gamers will need no introduction to this masterpiece. Younger gamers may be taken aback by the graphics, but with after a bit of perseverance, they will find themselves with a game that can still compete with contemporary AAA releases in terms of plot, characters and excitement. And at a reasonable price at that.

A classic.

By ThreeOhFour posted 1st May

The original Baldur's Gate changed the world of role playing games with its smart writing, huge environments and challenging combat. Baldur's Gate II takes this to the next level, with more people to meet, more ways to fight and more varied environments to explore. In every way a true sequel to the wonderful original, Baldur's Gate II is one of the few games truly deserving of being called an epic.

This a very good game.

I had played Baldur's Gate I many years ago, and when I discovered this bargaing one week ago, I bought it thinking I would enjoy a lot. SO I did. The first time I opened the game, it showed me a clear evolution from the last one. Now characters are better trained and you can get many new weapons and spells.

The game is divided into two different games. Both are quite interesting, although if you pretends to begin a story from the beginning, then you must not buy the game: you wil always start with high level heroes.

In brief, a good game, with an excellent ratio quality/price.

Not suitable for casual gamers...

The game does seems to be better than the original Baldur's Gate but I still dont consider it to be a good game. If you like the infinity engine games and the characters from the original game and the old (and in my opinion confusing) interface, you will enjoy this game. Otherwise save your money and buy dragon age origins which is not withouts its faults but is a lot less frustrating to play.

One of the Great Bioware games and RPGs of all time. A must buy for anyone who loves RPGs and DnD style fantasy games. Many Hours of fun here even Years after its release. It does show its age in some spots but still stands up well enough for 5-10$.

I was never a big fan of RPG games, but I have given this game a try. Everything according to programming is fine. Though, considering that games offer little in terms of return, I have found this game to require too much of and investment of time.

The game requires a lot micro management, and the A.I. option offers little help. Levels can drag on and on, and it can be exhausting. The story is very in depth, which can take away from game play. Sneaking up on enemies is not possible, there are too many ''quests'' happening at once, and character development is slow.

Overall, the game requires a lot of attention and time, and since nothing is gained from giving this much to a game, the rating I assign to it is low.

Brings Back Memories

OMG I am so excited I found this game for download. I played it "back in the day" and lost my disks a long time ago (although I still have the manual for BG2). This is one of THE MOST epic old-school RPG ever made. I am so excited to play this all over again!

This is such a great buy and a great price! If you want the most in-depth and rich storyline then this is the game for you!

This game is just like the first, only with a better game engine. Complete the saga and discover all of the secrets of the Bhaalspawn. Amazing.

Although this game has a really long learning curve since it's built on complex D&D rules, it's such an epic experience that you wont regret spending time on it. It may be too arbitrary to claim Baldur's Gate II is the best game ever made, but it's arguably the best mainstream RPG over all platforms. The game has excellent pacing and provides enough challenge. Game experience will be different with different party members, as all playable NPCs come with distinctive banter, side quests, and classes/abilities. Also The game packs all the stuff an RPGer would love: endless quests, believable characters, deep customization, various fighting styles, tons of unique treasures, enthralling main storyline, and lots of explorations. Pick any aspect of the game and it would be greater compare to other RPGs out there. If you are an RPG fan who has not played this, buy this game and play it now.

An old favorite from my childhood. My original copies of the game didn't want to run nicely on my newer Windows 7 & XP computers, Graphics and Stability problems. So when I saw this on sale here on GamersGate and with the game detail showing it'd work with my operating system I figured why not and gave it a shot. Game works fantastic on my Windows 7 laptop. No graphics or stability issues with this new copy. It may have aged graphics, but the gameplay and storyline is still as good as any new RPG game I've played recently.

Unexpected. I thought, putting myself in front of Baldur's Gate II, to find myself in front of a mere rehash of the first episode and instead I find myself in your hands real evolution of a product good enough at the time but too limited. Expanded opportunities for play, improved graphics, high longevity: everything, in short, that was expected from the sequel Baldur's Gate is here in this new chapter in the saga ... And perhaps even more than that. A good test of programming by BioWare, which shows how the attention to detail and the freedom offered to the player are important ingredients in the success of a good game. Of course, Shadows of Amn is still "dressed" by a series of defects, as a bit 'jerky graphics even on a powerful PC, or the tendency of the game to "let go" action to be developed much more linear after a little 'in the plot (say, after a good half of the game), but also considering what remains is one of the most beautiful RPG products in recent times, to play and replay for a long, long time. A highly recommended purchase for fans of the GDR "classics" for PC and fans of Dungeons & Dragons, and in any case to suggest a title to all the other gamers. Leaving aside all the talk is absolutely related to how "should" be or not a role play on PC, I think Shadows Of Amn is really one of the best products published in the last year for PC and as such deserves the attention of entertainment. Excellent.

Take Baldur's Gate, improve it a little 'from the graphical point of view, give it a few tweaks to the gameplay, an epic storyline with characters and powerful enemies ... for the rest nothing new. From the point of view of narrative structure are not even touched the levels achieved with the smell of Torment and constantly act as the trigger mechanisms that allow it to continue strong. The interaction between the characters is very low. The are lots of things to do, although personally I prefer games with less studied, but this better and deeper characters. The translation is good on average, but with the bad points in which it is hard to understand the meaning of the sentences. As usual, however, is a game which is really hard magnetic break away.

Are you hesitating on buying this game? Do you think it is too old? Well, I am not going to lie to you, this game is old, it does not have shiny graphics; but it still kicks more arses than most RPGs on the market and here is why:

The game mechanics are deep, with plenty of classes to choose from, the ability to multi-class, and over a hundred spells available.

This game has no DRMs

You can play this game in multiplayer, yeah you heard me well, this game does support multiplayer.

This game has a lot of voice acting, and it is done well. Just look up for some of Lilarcor’s lines on Youtube and you will understand.

Finally, the game has an interface that does not make me want to smash my keyboard on the floor. If you are sick of the controller friendly interfaces you find in most modern RPGs, you will be glad to read that in BG2 you can pick any item from your inventory in 2 clicks.

You might still be hesitating, but I can assure you that you won’t find half of this game’s features in today’s RPGs. The choice is up to you.

The best RPG ever, this game has it all: immersion, fun and an exellent story, go at it alone or with a party of interesting NPC's, the only danger is to never like another RPG again!

Now. This game alone is good. BUT you can get this game and Baldur's Gate 1 and then patch it so you can play the entire game (from 1 to the Throne of Baal) in the BG2 engine. Which is possibly one of the greatest things ever. And you can do it multiplayer as well using Gameranger. It's easy and it works and is a hoot to play with friends. In a nutshell get this game. Ten get BG1 and then kiss goodbye to most of your free time for the next few months.

The best RPG ever made. A must have for any RPG fan! The graphics don't really look dated because of its great 2D design. I had the boxed version, but I still bought it on Gamersgate because it's that good!

Just bought this collection,.... AGAIN! I bought both these games when they came out in 2000 and 2001. Heck, I even sprung for the Collector's Edition of Shadow of Amn. Then I bought the disks again 3 years ago just so I would have another set, and now the digital download version so that I can have it on my laptop where ever I go. So, do you think I like this game?

I have played through this games several times and I am starting another adventure on my laptop now. This title is one of the few games that just never grew old for me. Modders have helped it's longevity by adding everything from fixes, to new quests, to new portraits, to banter packs, all just so that there is a new wrinkle the next time through for the returning adventurer.

Sure, to some the graphics are outdated. Granted. To others there is too much reading. Really?

But I dare anyone who has the least bit of interest in RPGs and great story telling to not get hooked once they start this beauty up. Dated graphics and all! (To me, the art still holds up well but the sprites are a bit weak now,... but it is 11+ years old now.)

All-in-all, hundreds of hours of game play awaits those that take up the challenge. If you ask me, this is a no-brainer!

Baldur's Gate II is by now a really old game and unfortunately unlike wine, the game hasn't become better with age. The game has an extremely solid and intresting story and several well built characters, but the real problem is the horribly outdated game mechanics. However if you are looking for a great story and don't mind the primitive mechanics, Baldur's Gate II may be just for you.

You won't be disapointed!

By theoldapple posted 14th October 2011

If your a fan of RPG's this is a must! Although the graphics may be a bit lacking compared to modern games this still has a hell of a lot to offer. Ton's of different class combo's to play with (many with different play styles), loads of side quests along the main game all set in a huge world just waiting to be explored. Enough here for hours of game play.
