More Beautiful than Real Life!

By Chaos242 posted 4th May

Gentlemen, get a decent system (I have a GTX 650 and i7) and I can tell you that this game is more beautiful than real life. I mean...dat smoke!! The single player is a lot of fun; much more than I expected, actually. Multiplayer is a blast if you like action, land/air vehicles, and massive explosions. The procedural damage system isn't the same as it was in Bad Company 2, but you can google some comparison images of before and after a multiplayer match to see what kind of damage can be done. I'm sure most of you already have and play this game, but if not, give it a try!

A true Masterpiece

This is a Triple A game so it deserve 5 stars! The graphics and sound is great, and the gameplay is very, very addictive. It has a lot of vehicles, tanks, helicopters, jets, armored personal carriers and anti aircraft. The single player campaign is amazing but what really shines is the multiplayer game which is truly epic. You have no excuse not to buy this masterpiece!

amazing!

This is simply the greatest war game in history. I went to afghan last year and the realism of the fighting, the sounds and imagery are outstanding. Cod fanboys can stick to there kiddy game and let the grown ups play this.

Fantastic Game. Multiplayer and Singleplayer are both amazing. I have played Multiplayer on PS3 and PC and have to say that PC definitely takes the cake. I love all of the vehicles, infantry and large maps. 64 man servers are the way to go. Definitely worth a pickup and at 9.99 how can you go wrong?

Battlefield 3 is another great DICE game. I like that the level cap has been raised to 100. There are tons of little weapon extra's to unlock and that is an improvement over Bad COmpany 2, where by level 25 you had unlocked everything. Unit cohesion is more of a problem in BF3 than in BC2 so far, which is a bummer. I like the variety of map styles, and DICE has done a great job with the soldier classes.

All in all a great game that provides endless fun. More options than BC2, but maybe a little less teamwork.

lashbacks rattle you between roles as a disgraced US marine, a tank driver, an aircraft gunner and a Spetsnaz operative, all embroiled in a threadbare bit of hokum that sees you murder your way through sections of Tehran, Paris and New York. There can be no argument over the scene-setting potency of DICE’s efforts in technology and visual design. Battlefield 3 frequently leaves players slack-jawed with amazement at its compositions, from the ruined Iranian shopping mall, moonlight and rain cascading through its punctured roof on to tiers of collapsed walkways, to the pristine angles of a modernist mansion complex, perched upon a dusky cliff overlooking the Caspian Sea.

Battlefield 3 is most definetly the best online multiplayer first person shooter there is. The fact that you can play on a 64 person map makes this game awesome. The different vehicles, such as the fighter jet, which is awesome, really revolutionize the multiplayer aspect of shooting games. I've never played a game that can really compare to battlefield, cod is similar, but only that, it's really like you're playing a different genre of game. It's much more dependent on team co-operation than individual skills, and is also much more realistic. Highly recommended to anyone who like action games, not even just first person shooters. I never like first person shooters untill I played battlefield.

The maps and vehicles allow for a great degree of strategic freedom, but choosing your class and loadout is the first and most important decision you make before spawning into combat. Abilities and weapons have shuffled around a bit since Battlefield: Bad Company 2, so now the assault class slings health packs and totes defibrillators, while the support class carries light machine guns and ammunition boxes. Engineers still thrive on vehicle support/destruction, and recon delivers long-range death. New gadgets like robots that can arm charges (engineer) and mark targets (recon) give players more to look out for on the battlefield, and claymores and mortars (support) ensure that the engineer class isn't the only one packing an explosive punch. Unlockables include class-specific weapons and gadgets, gun-specific sights and attachments, and specializations that can make you tougher and deadlier. Focusing on one class to unlock higher level gear has its advantages, but so does spreading around your progress in an effort to be more adaptable to the ebb and flow of combat.

This game is amazing. I dont say that for the single player. I say that for the detail and work the members of dice did for the game. The graphics are amazing, sound superb and fluidness awesome. I give this a 4 because of the milking EA is doing to this game. Bunch of greedy pigs they are.

Aside from the lack of voip, I love this game.

By beergogglesftw posted 14th August 2012

Still 5 stars. I loved BFBC2, but this game took it all 1 big leap forward.

+ Great engine. Great mechanics. Great Graphics.

+ Some really well rounded maps. (A bad ones sure, but they are avoidable)

- Battlelog is terrible. Shound function in game.

- No VoIP. Discourages teamwork.

Still one of my all time favorite games to play.

Still fun even getting in late

By Stormrend posted 13th August 2012

Unless you're willing to blow money on the unlocks, you'll definitely be grinding a bit and dying far too often at first. However, if you're willing to invest the time, the game is still fun to get into if you haven't yet. I'm actually a half decent sniper now and can deal with the high-rank bunny-hop-like-crazy folks who have been playing since day 1.

I don't like how you can basically spray full auto using the foregrip on many weapons, whereas those who don't have the unlock have to burst fire. This makes it such that some jerk can just jump around the corner and spray like mad with insane accuracy ... wish they'd change this. Also there are still cheaters occasionally, but they're usually kicked within a few minutes and don't really ruin the game.

Bottom line, there are still issues here (grenade spam at a chokepoint, anyone?) but if you take the time to unlock the useful stuff, learn to play smart, and above all play with friends, BF3 is hugely entertaining.

A nice set off from the call of duty series. More emphasis on team play and got a bit more realistic feel in regard to the speed of the game. Add a lot of driveable vehicles to the mix and you got a pretty good fps. Although sometime vehicles add a certain amount of overkill against the infantry, there are maps suited only for infantry play. All in all, a nice one and a welcome addition/return to the genre. Only thing I would have wanted is the commander position to be present. Hopefully the devs will do so in one of the upcoming patches.

Battlefield 3 review: The Best Modern Combat FPS

By jasonnoguchi posted 26th June 2012

While ARMA is the best tactical combat FPS, battlefield 3 definitely takes the title for best action combat FPS. It is not as gamey as COD but also not as slow paced and tactical as ARMA. It is an excellent middle ground for players who would like fast paced modern combat action along with some realism features such as suppression and more.

Battlefield 3 definitely shines in terms of multiplay. In fact, if you are looking more for Single Player, then you should do ARMA as battlefield is definitely an online multiplayer game. Its campaign is boring and meaningless and completely different from the online experience. Online, Battlefield 3 offers all kinds of play style; From the fast paced CQB to the wide open vehicular maps, everything is there.

It does suffer from the same hacking problems and other game balance problems that all FPS has but those do nothing to hinder an extremely challenging experience.

Almost all beginners will start out with negative skill and lousy kill death ratio. It is every beginner's trial of fire to bring kill death ratio back up to 1.0 whn he/she stop being a noob. The initial learning curve might be steep even for experienced FPS players due to the suppression feature making it impossible to kill in Battlefield 3 under heavy fire when you could have done so with well placed shots in other FPS. This leads to many surprising and frustrating initial deaths.

Battlefield3 takes an average of about 100hours of play for you to start getting the hang of it and maintain a high kill death ratio. In fact, most really good players are 600 to 1000 hours into the game and this is definitely the game I spent the most time on in my life so far.

Highly recommended!

Battlefield 3 is a technological milestone. It is vanguard in terms of graphics and sound. That being true, this is the best shooter I've ever played. And not because the campaign is the best I've experienced, because it's not. Rather it is the feel, the mechanics of the shooting, that make the gameplay shine.

The single player campaign itself is very good. My major criticism is that it keeps a pretty consistent pace, oftentimes hemming you in and denying you the freedom to explore.

Nevertheless we all know that Battlefield is ultimately all about the multiplayer. This is considered to be one of, if not the best multiplayer shooter on the PC right now. Tons of vehicles and weapons are available for utilization on a range of vast maps, a stark contrast to the small scale close encounters of Call of Duty.

There isn't much more to say than has already been said, so I will wrap this up by saying that Battlefield 3 is worth every cent. From the vanguard production to the refined gameplay mechanics, this is the complete package.

One of the greatest multiplayer shooters I've played.

By logoso321 posted 4th June 2012

An intense multiplayer-focused game that will draw you back in timelessly through it's large reward system, various styles of play, and grand experiences - the likes of which you won't see in any other multiplayer shooter. Underlying all this is the Frostbite Engine 2, which provides some of the greatest graphics and most realistic physics of this generation. I rate this 5 stars for the excellent multiplayer package, I don't recommend this game if you intend to only play singleplayer, as the content there is short and mediocre. Buy this if you love multiplayer!

As BF3 is a FPS with realistic aspects and a competitive online community, it may feel inconvenient for more sensitive players. Rage and frustration often outbreak in the BF3 multiplayer chat, and sadly, there appears to be no trivial ways of disabling the chat or controlling the profanity levels, other than filters performed on the server side. The voice acting does not treat the player with silky hands either, so prepare for a good amount of swearing.

An amazing FPS game with varied styles of gameplay in the form of infantry, tanks, APCs, planes, helicopters, squad based gameplay, multiple game modes, a large selection of weapons and many attachments to go along with them. The game features many unlocks so you have something to work towards and the gameplay is focused on objectives which encourages and rewards teamwork. This game is far more realistic than games like Call of Duty but nowhere near as realistic as games like ArmA. Battlefield 3 finds the perfect middle ground. Featuring a wide selection of weapons you have the choice of keeping your distance and sniping, getting up close with shotguns, or finding a middle ground with everything from personal defense weapons, LMGs, carbines, assault rifles, grenades, C4, mines, claymores, and much more. Even the vehicles can be customized to suit your style of play by decking out your tank with extra armour, IR smoke or zoom capabilities for your optics. The game also has a some DLC out to add to the experience and is coming out with more which means this game won't get stale. The DLC is quality DLC adding maps, weapons, and vehicles in future DLC. Both the game and the DLC are worth the buy.

A great complete Multiplayer FPS game. It also offers a Single Player but 99.999% of this game is MP. 4 classes to choose from and level up there various weapons and gadgets.

Recon= Most people use it for sniping but it has the spawn beacon which if used right can really help your squad.

Support: Able to give unlimited ammo, lots of Machine guns plus you get C4. Overpowered imo.

Assault: Medic which heals and revives plus Automatic rifles and can use grenade launcher.

Engineer: Repair Tool, Mines, 3 Anti vehicle RPGs, Some Decent sub machine guns.

All vehicles have options you can level up as well depending on your play style.

This is where the game shines for me, it has great vehicle combat. You can disable vehicles when you do half damage to them or so which lets there veh. come to a crawl while burning and eventually blowing up unless they have auto repair or use the Repair tool. Light and Heavy tanks, Anti Aircraft Vehicle, Buggies,Humvees, Jets, Helicopters(Attack,Scout and Transport), Armored Personal Carrier plus others. Plenty to choose from, get points and level up.

Infantry combat is fun also where there are plenty of maps of close combat and some really wide open ones suited for vehicles. You can go it alone and do reasonably well or work with your team, squad or friends and really see the game shine. An excellent game I recommend to anyone who is a fan of 64 player FPS fun with lots of vehicles.

Great looking game with a campaign that doesn't take a break until the final credits. Hold on tight.

Multiplayer-wise, it was actually fun; this is coming from someone who generally finds no pleasure in getting slaughtered on a regular basis by emotionally stunted 30 year-old programmers who live in their mom's basement. So that's a real compliment. The initial levels keep the rewards coming, which encourages you to keep playing, and most of the maps are pretty well regulated and balanced, which keeps the n00bs (like me) from getting annihilated every match.

Awesome game, i normally am not in to these types of games but I got addicted to this one baaaaad. The levelling system is great. Only gripe is that some of them max out way too fast (launchers) while a bunch of upgrades are useless (long range scope on a short range gun). Other than that and the usual annoying player it is awesome.

Despite a buggy launch and occasional hiccup here and there Battelfield 3 (BF3) stands out as one of the few rare breeds. It may not be as team/wolf pack oriented as other games but none have matched the sheer scale or real battlefield war with the exception of Planetside. Its a great game which can occasionally be hard depending on skill and teamwork of opposing team.

Buy this game for the multiplayer. The graphics are awesome, you can destroy the environment your in and the shooting is just like any other battlefield game you've been in. There's all sort of cool gadgets you can put on your weapons and the engineers can control remote control vehicles. Did I mention you can fly jets too!!!

Battlefield 3 review

By bobtheandroidpenguin posted 14th December 2011

Pros:

1. Gameplay is more faster pace then Bad Company 2, but not too fast.

2. Vehicles are more balanced, but still dangerous.

3. Jets are amazing fun but take practice to get good at.

4. Server browser has a queue option so if you try to join a full server you can sit back and wait instead of spamming join.

5. Battlelog, though crap at first, has been updated so now it is an amazing server browser (Party join works, queue, friends, etc). Joining servers is done with ease.

6. Gameplay is fun and weapon/character customization is exciting.

7. No command spam like some of the previous battlefield games (Battlefield 2 and battlefield 2142). "ENEMY SPOTTED, ENEMY TANK, INFANTRY SPOTTED!" and etc.

8. 64 max players.

9. Knifing is easier than Bad Company 2, but not ninjas everywhere. It's still challenging because you can only get instaknife kills from behind. Other attempts require three knife swipes.

Cons:

1. Origin is required, though completely unnecessary. Origin friends don't automatically port to battlelog friends, though they do let you easily add them from within battelog.

2. The maps are good, but could have been better. Metro is on conquest is almost like playing the map Kill House in Call of Duty 4 with 32 players. Not as bad, but still crazy. Just hold down left mouse button.

3. As of Dec 12, 2011, we can't see the names of players who dog tags we've taken.

Overall:

Game is fun and worth it :)

Worth the money! MP is obviously what this game is all about but the campaign isn't bad either. I actually liked the campaign in this although halfway through it gets cliche. Graphics are gorgeous, sound is amazing, and the maps are nice. Conquest maps are big while Team Deathmatch makes nice sized arenas out of conquest maps. Its worth the price tag but I waited for it to go on sale as $60 a pop is pretty steep.

The graphics are simply amazing, the best sound in a game I have heard in a long time and fun as hell. I even gifted a copy of the game to my coworker since he saw how cool it was and I got him a copy. Don't delay..pick this game up and stay off MW3..it does not even compare.

The best online shooter right now

By robvp posted 29th November 2011

After a couple of weeks with the game i gotta say, it has the best online fps experience right now, it really feels like you are part of a big battle, the graphics are great if you have the system for it and the sound is exhilarating, every gun fire and artillery shot sounds amazing, its one of the things that makes this game so immersive.

Map design is decent though they could be a bit bigger, most of the maps are a bit on the small size and have a lot of small corridor areas, i have not ventured to 64 player servers but on 32 maps like metro can become quite frustrating with so many people on the bottlenecks, i think 24 people games is the sweet spot for most maps.

I would comment on the single player but i have not played much of it and lets be honest, who buys a battlefield game for the single player. What i have played of it though feels much like CoD, on rails and a bit repetitive with a weak storyline, did not keep my attention long enough to finish it.

I've played many of the past Battlefield games, and have been a long time fan of the series. This one takes the crown. A problem of many of the previous games has been that the Infantry combat had been less than stellar to say the least. In this latest version, they just got it down perfect. Throw in the always stellar vehicle combat, and you have what will almost certainly be 'Game of the Year' for FPS category. Do yourself a favour and get this great PC game.

I'm really impressed with this game. If you like Battlefield Bad Company 2 you will like Battlefield 3. The graphics are good, game play solid, sound is great, and the multiplayer is amazing. The only gripes I have of this is the single player. I thought they could do more but chances are if you're buying Battlefield 3 you're buying it for the multiplayer. If you don't like working with a team then don't buy this game. You'll need to work with people to succeed in this game. Also my last gripe is Battlelog. At first I didn't like it, but now I just tolerate it( I think it's DRM in my opinion). But overall love this game.

Battlefield 3 review

By brezanac posted 12th November 2011

One of the biggest disappointments of this year. Despite the fact that the game itself is visually stunning and offers unparalleled environmental destruction this game simply lacks on every other field.

The biggest issue with this game is that its actually unfinished and apparently released well before it was thoroughly tested. Its almost ridiculous what kind of bugs can be found in the game, when it even allows players to run it. Even more funny is the fact that with every bug that gets apparently fixed some new ones appear to ruin the fun. There are also tons of hardware incompatibilities most notably with graphic cards drivers which will either crash the game or not even allow it to start.

Single player is reasonably long but aside the visual appearance it has absolutely no replay value and some missions are bugged in a way that crucial scripting switches won't work which means that the only possible solution to continue is to restart the whole level.

The game offers a Co-Op mode which allows up to two players to join and participate in additional six short missions which last ten minutes at most. Some of them are interesting however others are, yet again, plagued by bugs which almost always result in the need to restart the mission. Oh joy.

Battlefield games are bought for their multiplayer component right? Not the case with this one. This one is bought as a gift for your worst enemies. Aside from the fact that all components of the game (even single player and co-op) are launched from the browser there is the inability to change ingame settings (even resolution etc.) if you are not spawned on the map and playing (this is the place where a "triple handed Riker-Picard facepalm" is more then adequate). The squad management system is simply abysmal and it usually works in a way that it won't allow you to play with your friends in the same squad and if it does you should probably go and buy a lottery ticket with that much luck. By the way, if this review was a Battlefield 3 match this would most probably be the place where you would not be able to continue reading it. From people getting stuck on pebbles or invisible walls, through disappearing HUD and weapons acting as shooting peanuts instead of bullets this game has it all. If you can think of a bug this game probably has it implemented in some form. The most irritating thing however is that instead of fixing the existing bugs developers are apparently working on releasing "Back to Karkand" expansion.

If you are planning on buying this game the least you can do to preserve your nerves is wait a couple of months and then check if something has changed on the bug related field with it. If you can't wait that long or simply don't want to risk the possibility that nothing actually changes after so much time just do yourself a favor and buy a couple of copies of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and play it with your friends. And while you are at it be proud to have bought the last FPS game in the 21st century that actually respected players and brought them joy.

A Battlefield veteran review of BF3

By diegomorales posted 10th November 2011

This game is incredible, its not just about shoot and run. you HAVE to work as a team to capture the points, plant the bomb etc.... The sound effects are spot on! you can hear your teammates screaming at the enemies, saying their locations, and you can hear your own character say stuff as well. Its the stuff like that, that makes the battlefield series so much better than other games. BF3 has definitely surprised me so far, EVERYTHING is PERFECT. The single player is GREAT it has a nice story and the cinematic moments are awesome! this game well definitely get alot of awards in upcoming Game events!

Time will tell if this is truly BF3, or merely BFBC3

By TSMG posted 5th November 2011

I am a long time fan of the BF franchise with BF2 as my pinnacle. This new iteration is gorgeous and alot of fun to play, but I am at times left scratching my head at the absence of what I had considered core features. Is the absence a sign that the game has been nerfed down? At this point, I'm not sure. Using Teamsync, one can have a hierarchical command experience greater than the stock experience of prior games, but can we credit this game for that experience?

Persistence is a feature loudly trumpeted by the DICE/EA crowd and I am in agreement that the system of unlocks and promotions is a great one. The upcoming DLC, if followed by more and deeper evolution's is very promising for a long horizon on repeat gameplay. I mourn the loss of the commander feature and squad-to-squad synergy, but maybe DICE will wake back up and realize that this is what made BF2 so special.

Either way, this curmudgeon is an early convert to the new BF experience. I will play it for years if DICE stays remotely interested in my business. Go out and buy it ASAP

BF3 needs an in-game server broser.

By Wendersnaven101 posted 30th October 2011

BF3 uses a web based server browser thats really annoying. You EA Origins to just launch the game and it brings you to its server page where you get to choose to launch the game campaign, co-op, mutiplayer or you can look up your stats. Its pointless and a waste of time. Every time you pick a server to play on, you gotta wait for the game to launch, load its intial resources and than load the map. Everytime you leave a server, the game exists and brings you back to the web-based server browers. You cant even change the game settings unless you launch the campaign. What a waste of time, especially since you can look up leader boards, your stats and everything else in-game in every other battlefield game. The actual gameplay is fun, with large maps, 64-player servers, large variety of weapons, a mixture of land and air vehicles including jets, and gameplay that rewards playing as a team. Its definitely really buggy but futures patches are bound to fix them up like all other Battlefield games.

It can show so much more information comparing to in-game browser. Only one issue is MP don't show your ping while in game, but all of minor issues - as a tradition with DICE - soon to be fixed. Overall, it's a rock solid FPS in 2011 and a very good showcase of DirectX 11 as well as capability of Frostbite 2 engine.

Battlefield 3 review

Battlefield 3 is a fantastic game, if you enjoy multiplayer FPS. Large maps, 64 players (the only game that still cares about mass mayhem these days), a wide selection of vehicles to drive/fly, and a interesting class system with interesting items besides just new guns (mortars, mobile spawn points, mines, recon probes, etc). A must buy for any online FPS fan.
