What seems to be an action/platformer game is revealed to be a MOBA game like Dota 2 or League of Legends, only with 2D view. Two teams fight to destroy the enemy's generator and win the game. You pick a character from a wide roster (ranged fighters, close combat guys, buffers and other typical stuff), level up during the game and buying more skills in the base. Fun game, but controls are quite unresponsive and it's multiplayer only, which means that you'll quickly delete the game if you are not interested in MOBA games.

Game is satisfying and interesting take on a MOBA. The community could use some more people or play with your friends. Nice short rounds and not to long compared to other MOBAs. Lastly some balancing needs to be done, but it can be fixed in future updates.

I have logged over 200 hours on this game. It's one of those games that is easy to play, but hard to master. There are over 15 characters to pick from and most have multiple viable loadouts, so you can spend hours just experimenting new builds.

It's easy to jump into a game even when you're playing by yourself. The community is pretty laid back and you're not likely to get shouted at if you've made a mistake. This is partly due to the fact that there's a matchmaking system; you'll always play with/against players of your own level.

The creators are working on new content all the time, just recently a new character and map have been added (free patch). There's also the option to buy extra skins.

I'd say you'd definitely get your money's worth, even just trying out all characters should net you a few dozen hours of game time.

First of all, I should say I hate MOBA genre but I love this half-platform, half-MOBA & full-fun game :) Even if you haven't played a MOBA game in your life (like me), you can learn the game in a few hours. Though it'll take a lot to master. Every character has unique abilities and playing each of them is a lot different.

It has also really nice 2D graphics and a GREAT original soundtrack. It's already fun to play alone but if you have 2 friends to play with, it will be much more fun.

Quite fun game, but it could be better. Too many character dlc's and it feels a little bit too much like a console port. Overall it's not bad and it can be fun with friends for sure.

I don't want to say this is a more "simple" version of League of Legends... but that's pretty much what it is. Really easy to jump into, plenty of content to explore, and plenty of DLCs to keep you occupied. Since it's a competitive game, the replay value is excellent. Can't really beat the price for something like that.

Very fun and enjoyable game. The biggest issue however is with the connection problems. Many times you'll be disconnected because of the host lag and after that the system will penalizes you for "leaving".

Very good game and provides hours of fun.

Cute graphics and music is cool.

AI can be useless sometimes but handy when people drop in and out.

The name Awesomenauts definitely reflects what I think of this game, it's awesome! I love this game. It's a new MOBA style platforming game that introduces new elements to the genre. Playing this game is very fun and relaxing and you don't feel as much pressure as you would in other MOBA's which is great!

I bought this game recently, and iv played it alot, what i like about the game is, it runs smooth, the graphics are nice. Its really easy to find a game, just push Que botton, and it will find u a game depending on how good you are "hidden performans scale" so what i mean by that is, how good u perform, so you wont meet people that have been playing the game 500h if you new to the game. That way you can enjoy the game.

Im really happy with Awesomenauts! 5/5 stars. Recommending it.

This game is hands down my favorite, and most well balanced MOBA I've ever played. It's quirky, but easy to learn, and also very rewarding. Others mentioned lag issued but I haven't seen it.

This is the BEST MOBA. I used to play this on the PS3 but it lacks the great updates that the PC-version offers.

When i saw this offer for buying 3 games 50% off i bought and shared with my friends for an better experience on the PC.

Buy it!

Awesomenauts is awesome, Cliche but still true I feel. It's a game for multiplayer where you pick one of their large cast of characters and are then assigned to either the red or blue team. You then proceed to be dropped into the game (via a drop pod) and try to fight your way through the enemy turrets, npcs, and players to destroy their bases drill. You can customize your load out, buy upgrades during the match as well. Also due to their large cast of characters anyone should be able to find a favorite (mine's derpl). Thats one thing I was most pleased about in the game though. Each character has it's own feel and play style.

Awesomenauts is like many have said a MOBA style game with a platformer twist. I personally have found the game very fun, it's not 100% balanced which is it's biggest flaw. But hell LoL isn't 100% balanced and it is the iconic moba game of today. I would like to say I think there should be a debuff for leaving a game early as in the current state of the game there is a high number of people rage quitting. The game play it's self is fun and easy to learn. I especially am a fan of the split screen functionality.

this game really is awesome

By deedeedee92 posted 29th December 2012

While its mechanics and itemization may not be as in depth as DOTA or LoL, Awesomenauts brings a truly unique and fun gaming experience. This game has proven that MOBAs can be on a 2-D platform and still retain its sense of competitiveness. I bought this game with a few of my friends when were bored and looking for something to do, a buy that none of us regretted, rather a buy that well all enjoyed. I fully reccomend this game for most anyone as I find it appealing to both beginners to the MOBA genre and hardcore MOBA fans.

Awesome!

What happens when you stick Megaman and Team Fortress in a Blender?

AWESOMENAUTS!

This is a 3v3 online game where you choose a character and fight to beat the opposition! There are plenty of different characters, each with different powers and weapons. In-game powerups are earned by killing the enemy and taking their loot. Adding to this, depending on how many games you win, you earn XP points where you permanently unlock different abilities and characters.

Nice simple graphics, good online action.

Oh, wait! Did I mention 4 players on one machine!!?

Since I have no friends, Im pretty sure you can even have multiple players on one computer play online as a team (Split screen) - Super Sweet!

There are so many places where this game excels, yet one where it fails.

*Control system with control pad*

Why? Well, put simply, a control pad can NOT shoot in any direction, even when setup correctly in the settings. A mouse, CAN.

Hopefully the developers will patch this soon (they are actually hard working guys, it seems- releasing update patches regularly), to make a "Smash TV" control scheme... Ahhh yeah, good times.

Pros

+ Simple, but to the point Graphics

+ Well balanced character sets

+ Most games are very competitive

+ Constantly being updating

Cons

- Controls via control pad (barf!)

Awesomenauts is awesome in a way!

By arkncheeze posted 26th December 2012

As someone mentioned it before and as the name suggest, it is in fact awesome! Well at least to me since it perfectly tingle my gaming sense.

I am not new to moba or arts. In fact I do play Dota 2 a lot. I tried many other moba but I come back to it. But Awesomenaut, I was impressed. Now Awesomenaut is my dose of moba games along with Dota 2.

Awesomenaut is a side scrolling game which at first can be mistaken for a regular shoot em up! But beware it isn't! You need to destroy the defensive tower in order to get to their base and destroy their main core! However the path isn't easy as the tower are hard to destroy on your own. You need the help of your droids and the other 2 hero in your team to take them out! Also keep in mind the other team also have 3 heroes and droids who are also very eager to take down your tower and the main core!

Your hero gains level in the heat of the battle and earns money in this care they are called solars! Which can be used to get skills and upgrade them. Awesomenaut doesn't have item builds but rather depends on skill build. So it might not appeal to the hardcore players but is a good starting point for those who wants to test out the moba waters!

In a nutshell it's a good game with nice graphics, good soundtrack and nice characters. Overall a fun game esp. if you are in party with your friends. So try to get it esp. if it is on sale that when I got it. :)

Absolutely amazing title if you have the slightest interest in the MOBA genre, and a interest in two dimensional platformers. But games like DOTA2 and League of Legends scare you because of the insane player base. Totally worth getting, in my humble opinion.

By Zystus posted 23rd December 2012

Even if you're a vetted MOBA nerd, this separate spin on the same idea makes you look at the genre in a new light -- dimmer, perhaps softer, rather than plugging in a new bulb altogether. That Awesomenauts is a multiplayer game first and foremost don't bother with bot matches alone means you're likely to play it in the company of others.

When all my friends bought this game I looked and it and thought: No,I don't like those sidescrolling platformer games and I don't like those MOBA games. But when it was on sale I bought it and I can't say that I regret it. It is fun,it is easy to learn - hard to master, it kills your time yet it doesnt steal it. Hardcore MOBA fans might be a bit disappointed, that it is not a problem for me. In fact it makes this game "more friendly". If you are new you can practice with bots. This helps you to learn and the game and you can also progress with the characters that way to unlock skills (although MP is more efficient). Most of the players I encountered were really nice, although there are always some annoying ppl, too. Devs still add content and tweak the characters for more balance. PLUS! The game has a DERPL.

So if you have some friends to play with or if you are interested in that game: Get it. It's cheap and it's big fun.

Very fun game. It's not a game you would play for hours on end but a game I could see myself playing a couple of matches and leaving it. This is not a bad thing as it will be hard for the game to lose it's charm.

Awesomenauts review

By LLink24 posted 16th December 2012

This is my second time buying this game, so you can assume it is quite good. There is a slight learning curve, but it is quite easy to get over that so don't get discouraged. Just remember to play "practice" with bots until you are level 5, then go for it online.

Basically this game is an online, multi-player action-platformer. More specifically, it is a new entry into the MOBA genre. It does away with the elitism of your usual MOBA games and replaces the clunky RTS controls with something more fluid and natural (although you need to realize this game was designed for use with gamepads so keep that in mind). The gameplay is solid, and there is no "meta-game" culture of min/maxers to deal with.

In my opinion, if you want to get into the MOBA game genre, this is the place to be.

A great entry into Dota-alikes

By MonsieurTinyhats posted 4th December 2012

This game is not nearly as popular as it's genre contemporaries, but the playerbase is that much friendlier. Which already puts it at the top of the heap of Dota-like games I would actually play. And the time investment is usually around 10-15 minutes, so you aren't playing one single match all day.

The design aesthetic is quite nice. Hand drawn 2-d sprites with lots of personality. The gameplay is accessible from the start, but it really opens up when you've unlock a few abilities. And it does try to help the genre grow by streamlining some of the more annoying issues of the genre, like grinding and respawning. And the overall feel of the game is fast and frenetic.

I'm not a real Dota-alike fan, but I did actually enjoy this game. It's simple, and there are some issues with latency, so real hardcore players may blanch at it. But for a simple casual competitive game, you could do a lot worse. Go into it with an open mind and you might just have a lot of fun with it.

Pretty nice MOBA 2D sidescrolling genre game which will keep you and your friends busy playing it, the game itself doesn't have many maps but does have a lot of heroes to try out, the game itself it's not super hatd which is good, said this you should really pick it up.

Awesomenauts review

By ceildric posted 28th November 2012

As others have noted, this is very easy to pick up and play. You can have a lot of fun right from the start. Later on as you become more familiar with each character's strengths and weaknesses and particular skill set the game will become increasingly deep. There are also a great number of characters, skills, and power-ups to unlock through leveling up your account.

This would be a good pick for someone interested in a casual MOBA experience. I give this 4 stars (rather than 5) primarily because of the ultimate limits to how deep this game is, and the relatively repetitive maps.

Awesomenauts review

By Xocrates posted 24th November 2012

As a more casual entry in the MOBA genre, it holds its ground pretty well.

Map variety is lacking and movement/combat isn't as fluid as it needed to be, but hero variety is interesting and drop-in/drop-out multiplayer makes it great for quick games.

Been a fan of MOBA type game such as DOTA, LoL, HoN and Smite. Awesomenauts change it up by making it a 2d sidescroller. Easy game to learn and casual small 3v3s.

Awesomenauts review

By zigo_meno posted 16th November 2012

As the name implies, it is awesome. It have a fast gameplay, with charismatic characters, good music and nice stages. The battles usually ends in less than 20 minutes, so your character will level up fast during the battle, and you won't spend too much time in a single battle, what for me is a good thing, as you won't have time to get bored.

The only thing bad about it is the lack of equipments to your character. You only buy upgrades for the skills of your hero, what makes little room for a greater personalization and give you less ways to work a winning strategy.

Great sit on the couch game

By scondran posted 15th November 2012

This is a fantastic game to sit on the couch and play with friends, and some xbox controllers. You can play with bots (our favorite, we're terrible gamers) or online against other folks playing on the pc or on the couch. I do wish there were ways of playing more than 3 on the couch to have some nice competitive play with friends! Might get a bit busy on screen though!

The game play itself is nice. A 2d "moba" style game, with fun platforming and shooting (or slashing) elements. The object is to destroy your enemies base, while protecting yours. Game play can be hectic particularly for non-twitch gamers, but still fun. Death is unfortunately punished pretty severely which might make new players rather cautious.

It's great for me and my friends playing with bots, but I probably wouldn't play it by myself much.

Awesomenauts is tons of fun. The idea of taking a MOBA and turning it into a sidescroller may sound a bit iffy at first, but it really does work out perfectly. I haven't really played it hardcore, so I can't really say how balancing is, but from what I can see all of the Heroes are equally useful and fun if used properly.

Awesomenauts review

By MrTeachwell posted 28th October 2012

It's a sidescrolling MOBA. This means you work with a team to destroy the enemy team's base. You kill little robots and the enemy heroes to earn points that allow you to upgrade your abilities. You then use those to take down the enemy defenses and eventually their base. Rounds last between 10-30 minutes. The visual style is appealing (often described as saturday morning cartoon style) and the music is really fun. Online matchmaking works well and bots take over for players that leave.

Really worth the small asking price.

The little brother of Dota 2 or League of Legends. If you don't want to read tons of guides just to avoid being a liability for your own team, then this is your MOBA. It's easy to learn and and to play, but still offers enough depth to be fun for many hours. The art style and music is also great.

This game has tons of personality every character has their own theme song and abilities. The game play is your typical MOBA you take down towers and fight other players while buying upgrades for yourself. Really fun and easy to get into. Not really much of a single player you just fight bots. You can go split screen and play with a friend which is amazing. Really fun game and have already played 25+ hours in under a week.

Awesomenauts is an awesome game, innovative, unpredictable and very fast paced.

Pros:

-The characters are unique, and have a lot of personality.

-The controls are very fluid and intuitive.

Cons:

-The matchmaking system is horrendous, you nearly always end up joining in the middle of a match.

-Small playerbase, it more often than not gives you the impression that there are only a handful matches on-going.

The game has a lot of potential though, and is fun to play even alone. Recommended to anyone into the genre.

One of a kind MOBA.

It has all the basics: towers, minions, a 'jungle' and a lot of fun!

Some notable things though compared to other MOBA's:

- No Fog of War;

- Health shrines;

- Random coin spawns;

- Developed by a Dutch company. (Hurray for my country!)

It can be a very fun game to play with your friends, at LAN parties and basically everywhere you feel like playing a quick MOBA game.

Rounds last around 15 minutes, if not more.

And it's very suitable for young players, aswell as older ones.

5/5: Because I've been one of their first players to enjoy the fun.

Awesome little indie game !

While the game is a MOBA it is very casual but fun. Having a platform aspect brings a whole new set of skills to this 2D game. Don't let the term casual put you off there is definitely skill involved since nothing is auto-attack or target-able skills. Worthy of a try for the price.

Jump&Run&Gun&MOBA: Awesomenauts

By DerBri posted 7th August 2012

Awesomenauts is one hell of a game. Imagine if a redone Contra had a baby with your DOTA style game.

It's a competitive game where three people on each team (bots are included as well) try to destroy the opponents base with the help of small NPC units, known to MOBA players as creeps. So far, so MOBA. But the run&gun aspect of the game makes it far more intense than any DOTA-like I have ever played. Given, there are far less options concerning characters and customization. But the action part, where your muscle reflexes have to be on point like they have to in an action game. It's not clicks per minute, it's WASD + aiming! But you also have your skill leveling, cooldowns etc. all intact, so it's a true hybrid that has a really unique feel to it.

Which also adds to it are aesthetics and sound: The graphics are cartoony and absolutly fitting; anyone who played Swords & Soldiers knows what style Ronimo give their games (so far). In my opinion, by the way, they look better when you play yourself than depicted in pictures or videos. Combined with the great sounds and musics (every character has it's own theme music, distinct voice set...) you get a game that entertains with it's visuals, it's audios and, most importantly, it's mechanics.

I give it 4/5, because right now, the character balance is a TICK off. But, as you can see in the official forums, this is going to get addressed as soon as possible.
