This game can require some grinding at times, because the next area you go to is always filled with guys that can 2-hit kill you. Aside from the grinding, I loved this game. It was the game that starting my search for other SNES-style graphic games. I have found that they have good stories so far. This one did at least. :)

Aveyond - Rhen's Quest review

Aveyond is a wonderful little series, each one is lovingly crafted but has some rough edges.

The game themselves are just like the old snes JRPGS. If you were a fan of them then you will feel immediately at home here. If you weren't a fan then this won't change that.

Rhen's quest has strong characters which really grow on you, the story itself is rather weak but the strength of the characters makes up for that. As I don't wish to spoil anything I won't go into detail.

As for the graphics, highly reminiscent of snes games. I felt quite nostalgic for some of the classics just by seeing them. The one plus is that they are at a higher resolution so look quite a bit better.

Overall if you like jRPG's you will like this, if you don't you won't. If you have never tried one then this certainly isn't a bad place to start.
