Rating: 4.4 (207 votes cast)

ArmA 2 paints a plausible near future. In 2009 the fictional post-soviet country of Chernarus is ravaged by civil war. For two crippling years, conflict has raged...

Players explore this volatile world with Force Recon Razor Team, part of a US Marine Corps Expeditionary Unit. The 27th MEU are deployed to Northern Chernarus on a peacekeeping mission with a mandate to prevent further civilian casualties and promote political stability.

ARMA 2 is based on the latest generation technology. It offers a uniquely vast game world, authentic and extremely detailed modern units, weapons, vehicles and environment. The branching, player-driven campaign can be played solo, or cooperatively and is accompanied by a huge range of single and multiplayer game modes.

  • Player-driven story: Role-playing and resource management elements. Command your troops through a branching campaign full of twists and surprises.
  • Extensive multiplayer: Play the entire solo campaign cooperatively or dive into huge PvP battles for control of the whole map.
  • Mission Editor: The Intuitive, powerful mission editor lets you design your own missions in minutes or create intricate and unique campaigns. Infinitely extend the game!
  • Authentic weapon simulation: Bullet ballistics and deflection, material penetration, real-world magazine capacity, tracers, ammunition types and stopping power.
  • Unique AI: No scripts, no pre defined pathways. AI adapt and use the open environment on the fly. AI share information, flanking and taking cover to surprise and outsmart players.
  • Dynamic conversation system: ArmA 2 integrates preset conversations with dynamic queries about the game environment. Talk to soldiers in the field and civilians caught up in the fighting. Soldiers shout and use hand gestures based on real world military doctrine.

This is by far my favorite military game. Its really fun and it has all sorts of things you could do. It also takes a lot of practice and when you get the hang of things, it makes it really interesting.

Been playing this game for 2+ years, and I must say Bohemia Interactive is one of the only company that actually sits down and listens to there player base in making the game more friendly to let create the toys you want too. Scripters heaven <3

But before you buy it, don't just buy arma 2 but buy Arma 2: Combined Operations. As its a completely different scale.

Arma 2 is a great game if you are looking for the realistic approach to video games. Many people will not enjoy this aspect of the game, however it does what it wants to do perfectly.

A GREAT first person shooter that carries great potential to be so much more. Mod-friendly and very well put together, I cannot wait for the sequel, Arma 3.

Almost too realistic, but still can be fun for anyone. I suggest that if you are having a hard time with the single player try out the challenges. They will give you a feel for the game with out overwhelming you and reward you with new weapons and vehicles giving you a good sense of progression.

ArmA 2, Great value!

This game is great if you want to just get into ARMA2 and not go into DayZ the instant you get it. This is authentic military experience, and it is very fun when played with friends or with other people. I would recommend this to any FPS fan or someone that wants a realistic shooter, but cant find one.

Great combat simulator. Take battlefield and make it ultra realistic. Graphics are a bit dull but the view distance is crazy good! Once you have played this you will definitely be purchasing Arma 3 when that comes out. Also has the great Mod Day Z.

Arma 2 is like the best army simulator ever! Buy it now since its on sale and wont last long. And also its the upgraded version of operation flash point. So if you do don't like slow tactical games, don't buy this game

This game could have been the best military game out there, but it always would either lag me out of a server or just have terrible fps. When it is running fine it is a great simulation that keeps you on the edge of your seat, but that is almost never. Like most people, I bought this for mods like DayZ and ACE. ARMA is great for those mods, but don't play it if you get OCD about fps drops.

Awesome game! My friends and I have dove into the battlefield for little over a few days now, and I recently picked up an extra copy for a buddy of mine - now we're all getting knee-deep in the game and having tons of fun. We've also been playing the incredibly DAYz mod for Arma II, which is a must have if you own the game!

Games of this type, and this series in particular, seem unable to escape from this contradiction. ArmA II is Bohemia Interactive's continuation of its own Operation Flashpoint series, now owned by Codemasters. While all the games in the series have been praised for their approach to realism, the developers have seemed incapable of tempering that with any concessions to usability or accessibility. The name ArmA itself seems to be a total admission of this fact by the developers, having no real meaning to anyone outside of their established fan base.

What can i say Just amazing, a must have....

Not for those looking for quick action. This is a sim game. Though it isn't so in-depth that it's not fun. If you have the patience it is a very rewarding experience. Huge open battlefields with every kind of toy you could think of, from bicycles to jets. there is also an awesome level editor where you can make your own missions, campaigns, multiplayer maps or just to mess around in.

The AI can be frustrating at times and the difficulty through the roof. However there is a quick save as well as auto save feature in the campaign so you are able to make some mistakes. If you approach this game like you would a call of duty game you will die. However if you take it slow, read your briefings and don't bite off more then you can chew you will experience one of the most rewarding games around.

This is the best military simulator on the market. If you like to play to a realistic game, this is for you. The graphics, the sounds, the AI, the gameplay, everything is great in this game. One important thing to know, you'll need a good computer to run this game smoothly unless you lower the graphics settings a lot. It is best played with friends. The community behind this game is great and you will easily find a lot of custom maps and mods who make this game even better.

If you are looking for a game simular to Call of Duty or Battlefield . . . This is not your game!

This is a great game if you are into a more realistic military simulation style gameplay. It requires a lot of micro management of your team and has more complex controls from most military shooters. It takes a while to learn the game, and takes even longer to get good at it. However, it can be a lot of fun and provide you with a lot of challenging gameplay.

Fantastic game, not only does this game keep all of what I loved from ArmA and updated everything it needed to. The cutscenes are interactive and amazing to look at, and the learning curve is nowhere near as steep as the original.

All in all this game has given me no issues, and I ran it at medium settings on a dual core system with 2 GB of ram. After upgrading to a 6 core AMD processor, and 4 GB of dual core ram, this game runs perfect at max settings.

This game is great, so I'll only mention the downfalls. This game is hard, the management of marines, let alone a whole platoon is irritating whenever your getting gunned down and no one can figure out what to do. All the while you may be the one kicking down the door and focusing on shooting someone.

The controls are pretty tricky. You really should have a keyboard to do this. The game will allow analog controllers and speed pads but there is just so much you can do that you need all the keys.

But other than those complaints everything about this game was spot on.

I spent more hours playing the original ArmA than I care to admit, and I can't wait to see how many weeks I'll spend on this one. The expanded and improved sound library, and the improved graphics and engine really make this simulator shine.

I was completely new to the series when I bought the game, had never heard of it before actually. Love the game: extremely mod-able, open-ended, realistic and fun. The original single player campaign is pretty good on its own, but with ARMA's community, you don't need to just stop there (again, almost anything can be edited: AI, weapons, vehicles, maps, big or small, it can be done, as long as someone is willing to learn).

If you're typically into fast-paced FPSers, then ARMA may not be exactly what you're looking for, but again, in theory you could create a more fast-paced game-mode within ARMA2 to play. The only thing I'm left wanting is a larger player-base; from my experience very few people know about the game (niche market), but I know quite a few "typical" gamers that would love it.

I have ARMA and I have ARMA 2. ARMA 2 just doesn't seem to have enough of anything new to make a second ARMA game. It's more like a good update patch. They came out with ARMA and then we all hear that ARMA 2 was coming out. The graphics just aren't that much better than ARMA. I have an nVidia 9800 GT with 1GB of DDR3 Video RAM. The sounds seems to be better. It does have more game options as far as game play. But it just seems like they wanted to update ARMA and be able to charge everyone for it. So if you haven't bought ARMA don't buy it just buy ARMA 2 or you will be disappointed if you buy ARMA and then buy ARMA 2. Although the best mods are still in ARMA. Once the mod community catches up it should be a much better game.

I am a huge Operation Flashpoint fan, and when although I looked into ARMA it didn't seem like enough of a new game as much as an upgrade. However, when I heard about ARMA 2 I had to check it out and it did not disappoint. The potential is there and the editor is just as fun and easy to use as Flashpoints. The graphics are easily 100x better, but that goes without saying. If your looking for the next flashpoint ARMA 2 is it. All that is left is the mod community to fully switch over.
