Alice: Madness Returns

Rating: 4.3 (79 votes cast)
Alice: Madness Returns delves deep into the dark and violent side of the imagination, creating a nightmarish Wonderland where Alice must face the demons that haunt her visions. Visit the grim reality of Victorian London and then travel to the beautiful yet ghastly Wonderland to uncover the root of Alice’s madness and discover the truth behind a deadly secret, kept hidden for years.

Eleven years ago a horrific fire took Alice’s family from her and left her mind horrifically scarred. Afterwards she was confined to Rutledge Asylum, where she struggled to confront her demons by slipping further into her fantasy world of Wonderland. Now, after ten years, she has finally secured her release—yet she still bears the heavy psychological burden of that tragic event.

With her mind in tatters, she is unable to resolve the fear prompted by her strange memories, dreams, and visions. Perhaps she’ll do better in Wonderland. She always has. She travels there, seeking what the “real” world can’t provide: security, knowledge, and the truth about the past. But in her absence, Wonderland too has suffered. Something has gone horribly wrong, and now a great evil is descending upon what once was her beautiful refuge. Can Alice save Wonderland—and herself—from the madness that consumes them both?

Alice: Madness Returns review

The art and music direction in this game are stunning. The platforming is quite fun and reminiscent of the great platformers of old. I enjoyed my play-through of Alice and will likely play it again at some point in the future, using the included Game+ mode. This game played flawlessly with no bugs or performance issues. A few of the puzzles are a bit tedious, and some of the jumping can get pretty brutal, but the presentation and style of the game are so tight it's easy to look past these issues. If you like puzzle platformers like the original Alice, this is a great game.

This sequel to American McGee's Alice is quite interesting and entertaining. I'm a fan of platformers and excellent stories, and this game fits both categories quite well. It is rather lengthy and the various levels you enter are all quite beautifully designed artistically. The gameplay itself isn't perfect, but it's worth putting up with to experience the visuals and the story.

The game has a few bugs in it, but there are workarounds to most of them, if you don't mind manually editing some config files. The serial key also activates on Origin, but you can play the game as a simple download from GG, as well.

If you want the original game with this one, look for the Alice Collection. You don't need to have played the first game to enjoy this one, though.

An entertaining platformer that takes you on a trip through a twisted Wonderland to discover the truth of what happened to Alice's family through collected dreams and memories. The art style is fantastic and voice acting well done. Combat can be challenging but a variable difficulty slider pretty much ensures that even casual players won't stay stuck for long. The game is also comfortably long in game play, a seeming rarity these days in the game market.

Insanely fun hidden Gem!

This is a game that, while not incredibly known, is a brilliant platformer. It is an action-platformer more specifically, so if you like games like Ratchet and Clank, you'll probably like it. As the M rating will tell you, it is not a game for kids. There's nothing sexual or anything like that, just some language and lots and lots of blood. Highly recommended if you like platformers, though I do recommend playing it with a controller.

If you are a fan of Alice, you should but this game instantly as the story and art direction is fantastic. For normal players, this game is repetitive and has uninspired gameplay. Only for Alice fans.

Really nice controls and a memorable story in a BEAUTIFUL fantasy setting. really a great looking game particularly in 3D, it may seem a little emo or girly at first but the gameplay is rock solid. i find it hard to get into platformers anymore but i was really blown away by how much fun this game was. maybe its the added rpg elements or maybe just that it is such a great piece of fiction, something about this game makes it really hard not to like it though.

Action Platformer and sequel to the critically acclaimed American McGee's Alice. Its a thrilling return to the adventure to the dark corners of Wonderland. Alice: Madness Returns delivers a fun yet unforgettable journey in color, design, and images despite its unrefined combat that is much better with gamepad instead of mouse and keyboard. Although not innovated in terms of gameplay, visuals are stunning like the first game. The story was a bit weak and the ending leaves much to be desired. However, its still a game worth playing.

Gorgeous

Alice: Madness Returns is indeed a beautiful game, at least when it comes to graphics (scenarios), etc.

One thing i must say is that playing this game for a few hours it makes me a little sick.

The gameplay is decent, it's fun to play but it's not outstanding, i mean you will certainly enjoy it, but i can't see me playing it again after finishing it, for a LONG TIME.

Thankfully it's not expensive, i mean 60 dlls i wouldn't pay for it, but 30 dlls it's worth it.

The most important thing i could think of about this game is the dark style it has, i mean, i hate the Alice in Wonderland original story, but this version I REALLY LIKE, the developers just took that childish story, turned it upside down and brought to us something dark and enjoyable.

Final note, i never finished the first alice madness game, so i don't know how good it was and how good is this one in comparison.

Beautiful game

There's not much to describe the art direction other than simply amazing. One can tell that the developers had some big ideas, most of which was sadly scrapped due to time constraints. What is left, however, is a decent hack 'n' slash platformer with a lively world and quirky characters.

The game takes a complete opposite look compare to the original disney movies (simply because disney wants a more "childlike" appeal to it)by simply making it a dark and horrific game style, not like your typical horror game but a more creative approach to it instead
