Airline Tycoon 2

Rating: 3.3 (75 votes cast)

More than a decade after the best-selling Airline Tycoon comes the long awaited sequel to the legendary tongue-in-cheek economic simulation that puts players in the role of CEO of an international airline! Airline Tycoon 2 will challenge players to run a modern airline, design unique airplanes and grow a run-down carrier into a globally recognized company that passengers practically beg to fly. Airports worldwide are waiting to be explored, but beware– your rivals never rest! Crafty opponents are also working to dominate the skies… and they won’t let anything stand in the way of their goals!

  • Explore real world airports, from Moscow to Caracas, with realistic travel conditions and passenger volumes
  • Build your ideal fleet of planes – use the in-game editor to craft inexpensive mass-transportation „Greyhounds in the sky“ or unique, luxury jets that spoil the elite
  • Jump into the action as one of four playable avatars with unique strengths and weaknesses
  • Explore your home airport in full 3D, while bossing your employees around and expanding your blossoming airline; you might even meet VIPs at the airport lounge
  • Test your management mettle in a challenging business environment as you schedule flight plans, coordinate arrivals and departures and balance income and expenses – all to grow profit and enhance your airline’s global reputation
  • Random events bring variety to the game -- The Pope wants a special flight? Civil unrest in a global hotspot? Volcanic ash clouds above Europe? If you act quickly, you can profit from these events!
  • Sabotage – annoy and slow down your opponents with devious actions. But beware; your adversaries may just pay you back in kind!

The game has really taken a step backwards from the original.

In place of new features are excessive amounts of loading screens. What could possibly need to be loaded whenever i enter or leave a room...

If you have to buy the game wait until it's on sale for under $5.

Fun game where you have to manage an airline; buy aircraft, create routes & do everything you need to run an airline. I personally like the original game better, because it was easier to work with. AT2 shows a loading screen each time you enter or leave a room, which takes a long time if you mistakenly enter a room. Another downside is the repetitiveness of the things the characters (especially the woman from the personnel office) say.

After a long wait its finally here!! Overall its a good game. I would have wished for more features but I believe that Kalypso has been trying hard to release patches to satisfy their fans. Eventually I hope they will get it right. If you are a fan of the original I believe you do have to try it out, maybe get it at a discount. It does have hours of enjoyable fun but lacks depth.

This is a long expected sequel and actually it disappoints as it loses most of the good features from the previous versions, as the cargo, the foreign agencies/branches and the easy going playing. Kalypso is trying to make up with continuous patches and hopefully sooner or later they will get it right, but at the moment it just lacks almost everything you would expect from a title with so many fans, and considering it took over 11 years to launch a sequel.

Not nearly as good as the original Airline Tycoon

By benghazzi posted 27th October 2011

Most of the great features of the original airline tycoon didn't make it into this failed remake.

- There is no Stock exchange

- No fuel management

- No mechanic

- No 2. Travel agency for last minute missions

- No Filofax or phone to communicate with your competitors and use resources mutually

The interface is very badly designed and you need to click and confirm everything which leads to endless clicks. The dialogues supposed to be funny but they are not. It's childish garbage humour. Kalypso media screwed the remake of MAD TV already up by making M.U.D. TV which was a horrible game and this one is not better. The only thing that is better than the original is the graphics. But this should go without saying since the original AT is 13 years old. This game has not nearly the depth of the original one and is a disappoitment for every fan of the original AT or WiSim fan.

If you are really interested in this game i strongly recommend you to play the demo first.
