Alan Wake Collector's Edition includes:

  • Alan Wake Files

When the wife of the best-selling writer Alan Wake disappears on their vacation, his search turns up pages from a thriller he doesn’t even remember writing. A Dark Presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save his love.

Presented in the style of a TV series, Alan Wake features the trademark Remedy storytelling and pulse-pounding action sequences. As players dive deeper and deeper into the mystery, they’ll face overwhelming odds, plot twists, and cliffhangers. It’s only by mastering the Fight With Light combat mechanic that they can stay one step ahead of the darkness that spreads across Bright Falls.

With the body of an action game and the mind of a psychological thriller, Alan Wake’s intense atmosphere, deep and multilayered story, and exceptionally tense combat sequences provide players with an entertaining and original gaming experience.

Alan Wake Collector's Edition review

By dokbido posted 12th May

In many ways, Alan Wake reminds me of the old "point and click" adventure games I played on the computer as a kid. You are propelled through the game by a strong narrative, dialogue, characters, and pacing. Of course, though the game takes cues from the old school adventure games (as well as some TV shows, like "Twin Peaks"), it wisely adopts modern control schemes, playing in the typical third person, over the shoulder style that has become very popular over the past two console generations. It is a very linear experience, but that's just the way I like my games- focused with the emphasis being on pacing, fun, and story. This game truly is the "psychological suspense thriller" that it claims to be!

Alan Wake is a must have for all the lovers of Alone in the Dark franchise!! An oppressive atmosphere, smart use of the torch, and a twisted story will put your nerves to the test.

Favorite game of 2012. A great stort line, with good writing and a nice look to the game.

Found myself really clocking the hours up on this game. A must own title that can be had at

a bargain price! 5Stars from me.

Alan Wake is a very, well, fun thriller expirience. The gameplay and enimies get a little bit repetative throughout the game, but the story is so intriguing, complex and full of twists that it keep you going all throughout. I highly reccomend this game to any fan of old school horror movies.

A great game even if you've played it on consoles before. I was disappointed with the stories in the DLC episodes as the ending to the main game was perfect, but they are still worth playing.

Other than slightly monotonous combat, the environment, characters, story and polish of this game help it stand out above the typical action adventure. I really felt attached to the main character and wanted to follow and help him on his quest.

This game shows the personal lives of the developers, in a way that has not been seen since Doom. These developers are not a large, corporate studio being told to make a game by a certain deadline, or being signed into a contract for a company for half a decade. Instead, I see a small group of young adults who watch Twin Peaks and read Steven King books, working on a project for Microsoft after having finished Max Payne. OH YES! The gameplay, right... It's certainly strong, and I find the light shield mechanic to be fairly clever, if a bit frustrating.

Speaking of frustrating, before I wrap this up, I must bring up the difficulty, which can be called constantly changing if you are defending it, or terribly off kilter if you are being critical.

However, despite a rather wonky difficulty, I would still recommend that you buy this game, if not just because of the very personal feeling that this game has.

I just bought this game spontaneously... Probably the best thing I bought this year besides Mass Effect 3. This game took me complacently by surprise and I can safely say that this game comes up there with the best 5 games of all time (Well at least in my top 5). I really recommend this game! I'll buy Alan Wake 2 (if they make it) in a heart beat at full price!

Alan Wake: An Excellent Action/Adventure through a detailed world

By hickswoolwine posted 3rd August 2012

Alan Wake is one of the coolest games I have ever played. The story has a horror approach with some Stephen King vibes (Alan himself seems to be modeled after King and other successful writers). The levels are varied and stay interesting, and the plot is excellent and keeps you intrigued, wondering if what is going on in Bright Falls is evil forces, or all in the mind of our hero. With many difficulty levels, there is some replayability, though the main game itself is not long (7-10 hours, but add in the bonus levels, and you have some more time). The perfect length I think for a game like this, not dragging on, but long enough to develop the story as necessary. The adventure elements are solid, including segments without any combat (for all you classic adventure fans), while the combat stays interesting enough that the player doesn't get bored (Typically, light is your weapon, and you have to dispel the darkness of enemies using a flashlight before they are vulnerable to your conventional weapons). The numerous easter eggs and minor touches in the game also make it stand apart from others like it, such as finding and reading manuscript pages that Alan doesn't remember writing, which foreshadow later events, or finding TVs to watch short episodes of a Twilight Zone parody, called Night Springs (this is similar to the TVs that were in Remedy's previous games, Max Payne 1 and 2). This is a top notch adventure that you must experience.

Creepy, but not actually frightening. There's very little interaction with the game world, you spend much of the game following linear paths where bad guys attack you at intervals regular as clockwork, and the shreds of writing you collect -- supposedly the work of a best-selling and also award-winning author-- are awful, which makes collecting them feel a bit empty.

Atmospheric and creepy, this game tells a story in the style of Twin Peaks or of a Joe hill story. Some great Max Payne references as well! Game play is smooth, the story superb, and the graphics are not bad at all for a Xbox port. Well worth your time.

Alan Wake is a what I 'd imagine a fully realised horror version of Max Payne would look like. The story is entertaining, gameplay is fun and the graphics are again what I'd expect Remedy would be injecting into Max Payne games if they were still making them.

All in all great game to play...enjoyed the expansion as well!

A great game that has you traveling through woods facing off against darkness beings. The giant wheel in the second DLC is a sight to see!

Alan Wake is one of the most atmospheric games ever. It's not easy to compare this with any game because I've never played a game like this before. The thoughtful story is just brilliant and while the gameplay can get really repetitive sometimes, it's an unique experience.

This is a masterpiece of storytelling and I can only recommend you to buy this "game".

Alan Wake Collector's Edition review

By Silverhawk posted 20th February 2012

This game is one of the best Survival Horror Games I played so far. I didn't play it on XBox 360 before, so it's the first time I got in touch with this game. You can see that the graphics are not really up to date, but the atmosphere and story is amazing. I'd say it's a mixture of Stephen King's The Dark Half and Shutter Island. The controls for the PC are very good implemented. After a while the enemies and fights become a bit repetitive and the difficulty only rises with the number of enemies who suddenly appear at the same time. All fights have the same scheme. First you have to point with the flashlight on your enemies, so that the darkness vanishes. Then the enemies get vulnerable and you can shoot them. Nevertheless the game is a very nice experience in computergaming.

So the only thing I can say is: Buy, buy, buy!

Alan Wake was originally a PC Game and was cancelled because of Microsoft exclusivity, and it's finally coming home! It's a masterpiece, very great history, atmosphere and gameplay, the PC version received some love, plenty of graphics customizations (even FOV), achivements and alot all DLCs released so far, it's a MUST BUY!.

Unique, Creative, Suspenseful.

By jentner1 posted 20th February 2012

Not since Vampire the Masquerade has a game moved so far beyond the rest. When I thought the gaming world would never stop putting out mindless first person shooters, alas a game which unlocks the full potential of today's technology. The presentation to the senses overloads ones reason, while the story entices the thoughtful, leaving skeptical video game disbelievers engage more fully in the artistic renderings. The early references to Stephen King are a tasteful homage to the master. This game is not simply a technical achievement but an experience of the senses and the mind unmatched in any media thus far. If video games go further into literature, there is no end to the depth and quality of what could be experienced; hell, people might actually learn something.

Plain and simple one of the best games you will find if you want a nice story. Storytelling in this game is just wonderful, there's simply no other game like it. Highly recommended to horror and thriller fans as well as those who just love a good story. Even if you don't like horror games, Alan Wake can only be as scary as you want it to be.

Hopefully the Game Designers of tomorrow will play this game, a true storytelling masterpiece.
