A.I.M 2

Rating: 3.5 (507 votes cast)

A.I.M. 2 is the sequel to the epic science fiction first-person action RPG developed by SkyRiver Studios. Its compelling story and unique look lift off exactly where the original ended.

Changes in the control system have led to new opportunities for the inhabitants of the Polygon planet. Mechminds, advanced robots, opened new sectors and have started exploring them. With the course of time Mechminds and their culture have altered greatly with some old clans fading away as new ones evolved.

New clans led by Mechminds of the Fifth Generation are powerful and well-organized formations with far-reaching plans. Powerful groups have different interests that often crossed, war broke out again. However this time it is the struggle not for mere control, this is struggle for survival. The clans want to eliminate the weaker ones standing in their way and will stop at nothing to dominate their enemies. To achieve their goals they use not only military means, but economic ones as well. As of now none of the clans has managed to achieve complete victory.

You are a part of the oldest clan called the Reckoners, a dedicated group looking for the firstborn Mechmind of the Fifth Generation. This could be a chance to restore former might for your clan which has lost its power and even be victorious in the war.

I was hoping for a Battlezone(1998 Activision) type game in A.I.M 2, but I was pretty disappointed. The physics are nowhere near as refined, the story is boring and while the graphics are serviceable, they are nothing special. Worth a shot if you find it on special, but don't get your hopes up.

Take AIM 1, and make the world more open, bigger, and more responsive to the players actions. If you liked AIM, this one is just even better. A good sequel, keeping good parts of the original and building on them.

Very similar to the first game though with a slightly shinier coat of paint. The environments are a little more varied and there's some more stuff for you to do. If you like hovering robo fighting this game wont disappoint. Though I don't think there's too much different from the first one to get too excited about unless you love the series.

An improvement over the first in terms of gameplay, but lacks the same charm of the first. I definately enjoyed it and can recommend it, yet strangely, despite the overall improvements, still enjoy the first one better.

I liked the first A.I.M game, and this sequel builds nicely on the first - you're still a hovercraft robot in a future wasteland, and the combination of FPS/RPG gameplay has been polished further.

Looking at my library, I have a lot of RPGs, but most of them are of the standard fantasy formula. The number of present time or futuristic, RPGs is smaller, but certainly includes a number of good entries, like Fallout 3. Very few, however, go beyond humanity and the limitations of the human form.

So, playing as a robot in A.I.M and A.I.M 2 brings some novelty to the genre, which adds to the attraction of this game. And this game does away with nothing important from its predecessor, while improving and adding to it.

Basically like AIM (1), but better. It keeps most everything from AIM, but is bigger, more open, has a more responsive world (that is, it feels like what you do/have done affects the world more frequently than in AIM), and is even more difficult. Really worth it if you're willing to put in the time needed. (And if you like giant open-world robot-based RPGs.)

A sequel to A.I.M., if you like the first game, you'll love this one. Overall, one gets a better experience with this game that I would recommend forgoing the "story" (you won't miss much) and starting with this game. Its a first-person RPG in which there is a new trading system, more option and places to go. Its wasn't my type of game but wasn't really substantive. The visuals were okay but nothing special and there was not anything innovative in this iteration. An Average game that is worth pursuiting if on sale.

One of the unsung heroes of PC gaming history. You can get so lost, drawn into the sequel to the awesome AIM 1 game. You can even form clans this time around. Open world goodness never before or since experienced. Buy it.

The sequel to AIM, it follows that games premise of you being an AI with a vehicular body that you can upgrade while carrying out quests for various factions. A larger variety of things to upgrade your vehicle with, a more involved story, greater variety of enemies, pretty much more of what the first game contained and if you liked that, you'll like this more. I still gave it the same rating as despite extra options, it doesn't bring all that new to the table.

Bigger, better and badder than the prequel, AIM 2 is worth the asking price. More freedom, more choices, ability to form your own clan, more battle options. With a decent story and look this is an underrated beauty. Get it now, you won't regret it.

The sequel to AIM, named AIM 2, is everything AIM was and most of what you wanted it to be (at least it met most of my expectations from AIM). I again had played this on retail prior to purchasing on Gamersgate, and I quite enjoyed it (not 5 star though, see below).

The game is much more open (expanded- several sectors and flying from one end to the other takes around 20 minutes or so if you do some random stops) and with more meaningful choices (and effects thereof). Featuring non-linear game-play, you are free to do what you want; fight, trade, explore. The graphics are good and are doing well compared to other games from the period; textures are well rendered in most places.

The game has a slight learning curve (like its predecessor only a little more steep), and the game2s difficulty is hard... so much so that even on easy, the game is hard; evading enemy fire and shooting enemies takes skill and a ride through that steep learning curve.

Overall, a 4-4.5 game and well worth the price on discount.

It is like the first one, except in this one u can make ur own clan. If u have to choose between this one and the first one, its better to play this one because after playing the first one, this one doesnt feel much different despite its improvements

A great addition to the A.I.M series with some much needed improvement. With a huge open world and plenty of enemies to destroy I would recommend this game to any fan of the series.

If you liked the original you'll love this one! It is a much expanded and improved game. It's everything that the original was but so much more. If you are not familiar with the first one it is a first-person A-RPG that has you taking on the persona of a robot or A.I.M. The many new improvements start with the world. Not that the first world wasn't big, but This one is immense and has under ground caves that are very fun to explore. As with the first game this one has a cool sci-fi feel that is as good a novel. If you are into Asimov, or other like author and the game genre I would say get it!

AIM 2 is a fairly well crafted sequel to AIM. Offering large expansive environments for the player to explore and make fairly meaningful choices in. The combat in AIM 2 feels a fair bit faster then it did in AIM, while not a detracting or favorable change it is noteworthy enough to mention. However the combat is still engaging enough to be fun, and complex enough for the player to develop a unique combat style to his/her liking.

What stops this from being a 5 out of 5 is that while the game engine has aged quite well. The game relies upon too many of its predecessors resources which feel dated and ignorant now.

Overall though this game series I heartily recommend to any game looking for an immersive singleplayer experience.

This game is a bit more complicated than A.I.M but you can feel that there is a lot more frredom in the way you play. the game is also more challenging and you can be destroyed very fast if you are not carefull. I love this game and i still play when i am bored with other games.

It's all a bit Alice in Wonderland to begin with....

But if you persist and invest some time this is actually a little (if slightly unpolished at time) gem of a game. Although 'little' is quite literally the wriong word. Loads to explore, loads of bits to find.... give it a go. 4/5

I thought long about to get this game and now im glad that i did it!

There are no informations aviable about the game, no english website, nothing and the manual is a joke, alot of important features are not explained well.

Visuals:

They are "ok", up to "good". The gliders look very well and the terrain textures are nice and sharp. There are also alot of different sectors = different terrains. Explosions could be better, they just look to simple.

Sound + Musik:

Nothing special on the sound, its fine but nothing special. Nice Weaponsounds, but no voice acting.

The best thing in the game for me :D. Its techno/trance and i just love it.

Gameplay:

You know the game "Elite"? Thats it, just at ground. There are several sectors 10+ and you need about 15 Minutes just to fly from west to east thought one(!) sector. You can do whatever you want... destroy gliders...collecting new mechminds (glider pilots) or destroying them (very difficult). You can also trade or just look around and do missions. There are ALOT of different gliders, there are combat gliders, trading ones and courier (fast ones). than there are mechanical and biologic gliders (they are able to regenerate).

Just one warning...the game is HARD and i mean freaking hard... i had to switch to easy difficult or its just to hard. With the first combat glider, you are destroyed in about 4-5 seconds if the enemy glider hits you fully. You need alot of skill to aim right and to evade the enemy attacks.

The flightfeeling is similar to the game "Battlezone 2" its actually fun to fly around, because the gliders act very realistic.

Hope i could help

I was on the fence about this game, simply because I really had a tough time finding any information about it. After making the purchase, I've decided it was indeed well worth the money.

IMPORTANT TIP FOR VISTA USERS: If you run Windows Vista, you'll probably encounter an issue with the game hanging at a certain point (after the training is completed). To get around this, use program compatitbility mode set for Win 98 / ME. No other mode made a difference for me.

Is it fun? Oh yes. I had to lower the mouse sensitivity a bit, but the action is fast and furious. There are tons of weapons (dozens of radically different guns, bombs, mines) and lots of ways to upgrade the many gliders you can buy.

You can create your own powerful army of gliders, take over bases, convince other mechmind pilots to join you and more. Great fun.

So is it an RPG? Sure. There is an interesting story to follow, the chance to build up your very own clan (if you want), order your clan-mates to follow you around in battle, do some trading, and a lot more.

HINT: Use the "`" (tilde) key to give orders to the glider you have targeted, including your own clan gliders. You can convince other gliders this way as well if you have enough energy (money). Also, the F3 key will put you in third-person mode.

THE CONS: There is zero English support for this game that I've found. The official English support forum is flooded with spambots and no one asking or answering questions. Yet. Maybe one of us could create a forum ...
