A nice strategy game expirience

By nateorf posted 5th April

This is a good game to play if you enjoy strategy games like Risk. AEL is set up a lot like the board game Risk, is in fact essentially the same game, which is one reason I like AEL.

It is not the best game ever invented by humankind. The music is kind of silly. The background noises suck, so you might want to turn those effects off in the options menu. And your choice of empires is rather limited. I would have preferred a larger list to choose from, because after a while, the same old scenarios get old.

In short, Ancient Empires Lux is a good strategy, that is quite entertaining up too a point and is a great game to play if you have absolutely nothing better to do. I give this a four, and that is being generous.

While not as robust as Lux Delux, which is essentially just an engine and allows one to download any of a large number of maps and customize each game, Ancient Empires Lux (AEL) is more regimented and has an atmosphere that the other Lux games lack. By that I refer to the "ancient" theme that buttresses each of the scenarios. It might only come down to some background bitmaps and the progression of scenarios, but AEL feels like more of a complete retail game than does Lux Delux. Another advantage of AEL is that the boundaries offered by the limited -- though not small -- number of scenarios and difficulty levels give the player more of a feeling of accomplishment as he or she moves through each scenario as each side, on each difficulty setting. AEL is well worth the $10 if you're someone who enjoys simple Risk-style turn-based strategy games.

This game is a must have for anyone who enjoy strategy games. It use the concept of the RISK strategy game and bring it on a simple and good looking interface. For each scenario, you have a description of the historical situation of the region you are about to play in. You have the chance to try every country in each scenario with all there unique challenges. I have already played a couple of hours and i haven't finish half the possible scenario and this is only on the easiest setting. So this games offers a lot of opportunity and value more than enough the prices of 10$
