My passion is large vehicles, so I'm right at home with this game. Helps time pass by VERY fast if you get into it. If you want intense action, this game will get monotonous VERY fast. I docked one star because of little things that I dont like personally about the game - physics quirks, simple graphics detail in spots, and I'm sure by now (2012) we could do a better job with the maps, as far as city detail and density is concerned.

A decent truck driving simulator which is looking long in the tooth now compared to the newer generations of simulators like ETS. Still fun to play especially if you live in North America. Somewhat repetitive to drive, but at least there is a lot of road on the North America map. The graphics are good, but are now looking a bit outdated. Mods can be found on the internet for this game and are highly recommended. A new version of ALH would be great!

Looks dated, but works flawlessly and somehow gives a nice feeling of crossing (pretty quickly) the states :). It's like Pilotwing for trucks. Really great game, simple, fun and well done.

I find this to be a very good game of challenge and strategy.I also like the way you can upgrade your truck in the garages you buy.Engines, transmissions, brakes, tires, custom paint jobs at your discretion. You also get a free excersize in disipline, for the free flowing traffic in the right lane love to jam their brakes on a open free way, hoping you rear end them.Your sitting at a red light, and they are laying on the horn non stop,oh how i want to crush them for that, but we must keep our heads together.Watch the stop line at the lights, for that is a very expensive fine even if you go one inch into it.I'm going to give this game 4 stars,it's my revenge for the arrogant drivers i tolerated.

Very nice truck Simulator. Lots of options. Nice graphics. The only thing/minor with the series is that there is not much difference in the gameplay. There are of course other missions, but overall the same gameplay sounds (even the horn) is always the same.

But besides that the game is really nice designed and worth playing.

great game...it's like something Norman Rockwell would have created if he lived in the Digital Age...if you want a goal for the game try buying all the garages...fill every parking lot w/trucks & trailers & after that fill all the garages...it will keep you busy w/ a purpose

For a long time, this was one of my favorite games. I played for hours and hours. One of the reasons, though is that it is very difficult to drive using the mouse and keyboard controls. I have long said I needed a driving consol for this game, but it doesn't seem worth it to me to buy one just for this game.

The game is actually very easy to learn and the graphics are pretty good. The options for cargo and destinations are many and quite varied. I don't think the three-star rating is quite fair for this game. It isn't fair to rate it without having used a driving consol. I think it might be worthy of a higher score if I had. On the other hand, it is extreemly difficult without one and frustrating. It's very much like trying to drive a truck with a thumb pad. So my three-star rating might actually be generous.

So i am a sucker for simulators. And since my father was a truck driver for a few years, i figured id give this one a try. For my first semi-truck simulator, i give in a 7/10. Not dissapointed but not impressed. You have your basics of course but i found it too tedious trying to sleep every 5-10 mins of driving and finding gas, etc. I guess what got me to stop playing was i found no reward at the end. Could spend an hour or more going to one destination for some money (the many fines you can get can turn it into the negatives if your not careful) then back doing the same thing.

There is so much to say about why I like this game. The graphics are top notch. There is enough scenery to keep you from being bored while driving. The traffic is there to keep you on your toes. There is usually no relaxing when playing this game.

What can you do with all that money you make? You can buy trucks, hire drivers, and run your own trucking company. Beyond that, there is nothing else. But, by the time you get limitless money, you would have played so many hours that you could call it a complete game, and maybe even start over, and do it all again.

I want to offer a piece of advice. I used to pick the route that gave me to most money. However, I kept finding myself traveling between the two or three same cities over and over again. So, I decided to randomize whom I'd deliver for, and what I would deliver. I used one or two dice to help with the randomization. This really added to the enjoyment as I never knew where I would go next or what I would be hauling next.

Sometimes, I add a story to my game. The last game I played involved a truck driver mother in her 30s who had a son who in his 20s. Depending on how well each delivery went would depend on how well the story went. The game ended because I ran out of money from so many speeding tickets. So, I attributed this to the son getting too many speeding tickets, and bankrupting the family business (the story continues on in another trucking sim). When you add stories to your games, I makes them that much more interesting.

I find this game to be relaxing. The graphics are nice and it gives a good sense of freedom, you can basically do or go anywhere you want.

I have a few trucking games such euro truck, german truck simulator and american long haul from the 18 wheels series and this one is the more entretaining and stable than the other two, the voice gadget is not very useful but entretaining when the game becomes boring, the map offers enough quantity of cities and is great to have part of Mexico and Canada on it, you can haul double trailers and a good amount of different cargos and trucks, is good to be able to hire drivers and run a company and its fun although not to real things like UFOs flying when driving near roswell, planes and helicopters on different cities, cruise docking in Miami however there are more details that could be added and not minor bugs like sounds or panoramic views, the traffic AI is really poor and is almost the same in the other two games, the entrance to the cities is not really different or complicated from the highway driving, the weather is not chalenging and is annoying the dozing mode, things like customs, scales, parking and cops are missing in the other two and make more interesting this one, you can't see the damage and the issue of crashing should be something more than just get fine and drive away, they could add things like flat tires or punctures, roads closed, alternate routes, coffe and food to avoid falling asleep. Of course the graphics of ETS and GTS are fare more detailed but thats it.

This game is a bit on the worthless side. It crashes constantly, usually when trying to rest or repair your truck, there are no instructions for the download version so you have to piece together what to do from various postings on forums from people asking about the lack of instructions, it sometimes rains inside tunnels, particularly those around Houston, there are what appears to be US Army bases in Mexico and many other odd happenings. It's not a really bad game for the price, but one should be prepared for the somewhat monotonous gameplay, glitches and some annoying "laws" that usually gets you pulled over for driving the wrong way when all you have done is make a left turn. If you have played other games in the 18 Wheels of Steel series, you will be familiar with the lack of attention to detail and lack of quality support so it will come as no surprise, but newcomers to the series may not be aware of the peculiarities of these games. If you love this type of game, it does have a few improvements over the older games and may be worth purchasing. I must admit I would be very happy with the game for the price if it didn't crash so often.

This is the 1st time I've bought an 18WoS simulator so I didn't really know what I was in for. Until now.

The graphics are really nice in this game. The basics on how to control your truck are in the Help folder on your hard drive. This was a nice find. The only problem I found is with that help file. Not knowing anything about the series, it really took some looking on the various forums on how to expand my game play beyond just me driving.

The on-drive help folder had just the basic button commands for how to control your truck and nothing more. I also found that controlling your truck is keyboard intensive. I had to ditch my steering wheel and pedals and just rely on keyboard and mouse.

In closing ..... Although the graphics are great and the options are there for moving your game play forward.... IMO, this is a grinder's game. Lots and lots of just grinding away the miles not really knowing "why" your doing it. No forced goals. Nada. Would be nice if they had a Multi-Player option in the game that way you could roll with your buddies tourney style.... but nope. Not there. Pure solo grind. Was fun for the week, but now it's wore off and to the back of the game pile it goes.
